Been playing BF2 a lot over the last month of so, heard quite a bit of criticism about 2142. However downloaded the demo and gave it a test drive yesterday.

Game rocks hard, liking the new features a lot (whatever is given in the demo, more in the full version obviously). Doesn't seem S&P much anymore either which really put me off BF2 at times. And the new weapons, camera veiws, vehicles and graphics are pretty sweet too.

Still getting to grips with the new kits, and how to use them effectively. So anyway, ordered it today. Not sure whether to get the Northern Strike expansion? Will this stop me from being able to play with you guys? I.e. will there be NS servers only that you play on?

So will let you know what name I choose e.t.c. and see you guys out in the field in a few days.

I do play NS from time to time but currently playing a bit more TitanMode. NS is good for extra unlocks/new maps.
Let us know if you need some advice on kits, jut compair it to your BF2-kits. I palyed both Engineer alot in BF2 and BF2142...
What do you mean with S&P?

Something that just came with practice I guess, but when in close combat with other players, I found that a lot of the time trying to get kills it was a matter of "spraying and praying". Which is why I prefer the new weapons in 2142, they feel more comfortable to use, It feels more like the right shot really counts. I didn't feel with BF2 that alot of skill was needed or put into getting kills with the weapons.

Whether this makes sense to other people I don't know. Had a read through the tips thread, will only be able to put them to good use when the game arrives, although I am curious to know how to get the "shock paddles"? Or do you have to unlock this feature in order to revive fellow team-mates?

Everytime you rank you can choose an unlock.
Have a look at my unlocks here; http://www.2142-stats.com/DuVeL_NL+Unlocks.html

As you can see there are for Recon, Assault, Engineer and Support 2 sides you can unlock.
On Assault you can start with either the Herzog AR Shotgun or the AED-Defibrillator unlock.
Remember that if you press G over someone's dead body you can take his equipment. So if you know he's a medic and he has a revivekit and such you can pick his kit up and revive him.

Good stuff, pretty detailed info. Looks like they went all out on customizable equipment for your character.

Ah ok nice one, but can you take other peoples equipment that you have not unlocked yet and use it in that particular session? I suppose then lose it once you disconnect or a new round starts?

Titan mode is what originally attracted me to the game, I used to love Tribes2 and it was so close to the way Titan mode worked that I just loved it.

For some reason I haven't played it much since I got it (when it came out). I think its because at the time the take up by -=[dMw]=- was a bit slow in the begining and I just like playing with like minded friends.

Maybe I should revisit it.

Only untill you die again. But the first few ranks are really going fast. Just unlock on which kit you prefer. NS just adds a few faster unlocks aswell then new maps.

As this extra stood out to me:

How effective really is the IT-33 Optical Camouflage? Checked a few videos with players using this unlock, but in you're opinion how useful is it? I.e. how well hidden from other players/how well can they detect you?

Well, some people really don't see you.
You can see a slight distortion and you can hear a bit of a buzzing sound. It depends on which map I play but I use the camouflage alot to get behind enemylines on Conquests maps to put my beacon behind the lines for my squad to spawn on (and take the backflags). More skilled players will notice you though when you pass them.
1 thing though, the camouflage runs out pretty fast and also when playing at first you can't run very long and fast untill you get tired.
You can choose sprint as an unlock and also furtheron the longer camouflage (and faster staminarecovery). Usually when I want to get behind enemylines I also wear no armour (so you can sprint longer).
I have the TL-S1C Camo upgrade unlocked so I can stay longer in camouflage.
1 thing to remember though, on some maps people will but up APM on corners where they expect people to sneak by. APM's wont work if you pass them and then crouch or crawl.

Interesting, too bad you can't use your weapons either whilst in this mode. I guess could have given an unfair advantage, without the TL-S1C whats the average duration period that you are cloaked for?

Does your character naturally over time become faster at sprinting and have it last for longer? Or can this only be achieved via the unlock you have mentioned?

Another thing that was mentioned on this E3 conference was that some of the players found that in BF2 tactics/teamwork/communication amongst squads was not as influential as they had liked. Hows this going in 2142? I suppose there is incentive now with the squad leader unlocks e.t.c. But so far hows the teamwork/tactics been on the servers you have played?

BTW decided to get NS seeing as it was quite a good deal, that should be here tomorrow and 2142 should be here on Wed.  :woot2:

Thanks a lot for the info,

(sorry for the bombardment of questions.)

1) No idea really.
2) No, only by the unlocks.
About NS; If you don't have NS a few unlocks wont be available. Also when you start right away with NS you'll receive 1 higher rank and 1 free unlock.
3)Same as in BF2. People don't follow orders (on publicservers). Exceptions are tacticalgamer and RiP (clans in general). I allways try and play with Ragnarh (on the forums) (Kakehund in BF2142)) so we team up.
It just varies alot. Sometimes you'll have a SL as CO who would listen but still on most servers some SL's are just there for the points.
It has improved a little bit though. Thing is that some people don't get it that if they defend a flag assigned by the CO (or when SL's themselfs press "T" and use "attack this position" or "defend this position" they'll get more points.
Also some SL's don't even know how to put down a SpawnBeacon...

EDIT; just ask if you want more info or such.
Maybe a rundown on things would be smart on the unranked server. Maybe when unlocks are allowed there you can try out my unlocks so you can see which you prefer for your unlocks (although after 2 months of play I allready had the few I liked most).
