Following on from here, I don't think it's right that we [admins] delete posts unless it blatantly needs to be removed due to content.

Furthermore, I don't think deleted threads should be physically removed - so there's not even the ghost image. Surely a soft delete is fine? and makes it easier for moderation should something arise from it.

For some reason the ability to "hard-delete" threads had been enabled for several groups when it should only have been enabled for the server admin group.

Mods/Supermods should be able to "soft-delete" threads as opposed to "hard-delete" threads.

I don't think it's a particular problem so long as it's not overly-used.  It is quite useful for housekeeping and removing old stuff so unless there's a pretty good reason for doing so I would leave it as is on the understanding that it's only used when it's obviously ok so to do.

(Besides - I often write muppet posts  and it's nice to get rid of them lol).

Own posts can still be deleted; whole threads cannot

It's also a matter of professional courtesy I guess.

PS. I guess, from reading the other thread,  that now this thread is redundant..... it can be deleted I guess.

I changed that few weeks ago. I guess its a mixture of being grumpy and trying to be all things to all people :)

Moderating forums, its a dirty job, but someone has to do it. And BB is doing a dang fine job at it :yahoo:
