I have an old fridge, which I can't afford to replace - nor is the size that common which means it is additionally pricey to do. It seems the temperature regulator is broken. It is a 6-step regular from off to 5, and regardless what I put it on, stuff in the fridge is slightly frozen, or very, very cold. I have developed a habit of turning it off/on before closing it, causing it to stop cooling. However, the thermometer in there somewhere turns it on again rather quickly. Any idea what is wrong with it? And can i fix it?

Edit: Where is the thermometer typically placed?

"Doctor, why are you writing my prescription with a thermometer?"

I would assume its in the housing that the 0-5 dial is in and wouldn't be too complex.

The Thermometer SHOULD be in the main compartment of the fridge near the top. If the Adjuster is at the top then I would imagine it would be there too. You should open that thing up and post a picture if you can.

I decided to take it apart and I luckily didn't FUBAR it. I found a stiff metal thingie cable broken free from a plastic disk holding it to the side of the fridge. I reckon that is the thermometer? I squeezed some tape and stuff in there which is now holding it pressed in place and the fridge *seems* to be running at lot less.

Cheers for the help people :)
