I was wondering;

Every long race the leaders wait with their pit stop until almost everyone is lapped, and then they set out to lapping them again.

Would it not be faster to pull away and pit just before reaching the backmarkers and then drop back to near the front again, pulling away with a clear track again?

Would this not both be faster and safer?

You are a genius. Last night I was lapped, 1 minute later I was lapped again by the same people. I could have won that race if I hadn't have been taken out of my stride. :sad:

I guess the leaders are enjoying of the flow that they have in their driving. It's disturbed only by a flock of some sunday drivers. After waking up from their flow they remember where they are and they decide it's pit time.

imho i think on paper (ok on screen) you make a good case :)
But with last nights race the track had really only one quick line and was not suited to overtaking. that  in conjunction with the amount of drivers on the track, meant that cars soon spread out and led to some finding themself being lapped earlier than normal and by obeying blue flags caused them to fall even further behind.
Last nights race was definatly not the norm. I pitted at half distance but had already lapped quite a few by that point.
But in general good point :)
It is better to stay quiet and act the fool, than to say something and remove all doubt

At least pitting early is a bad idea imho. You get behind everybody. Also getting lapped is bad - it slows you often when giving more room and you are probably going to be lapped again therefore by someone else. => to minimize the risk being lapped = pit late. Although I bet the fast people have rarely problems being lapped. :g:
