I have a longish flight first thing Monday and need a good recommendation. Preferably non-fiction, don't mind funny or not. Finished Ray Mears telemark last time around, done most of Bryson and dawkins.

Was thinking maybe freakonomics? Any good?

Apologies for formatting but I'm in the bath testing my blackberry web browser. Yes lib, I'm naked.

Need quick answers, and where to download from, leave here Monday 630am.

Non-fiction - Anthony Beevor's Stalingrad was impressive, Berlin was even better. Haven't read the latest. They are usually in airport book shops? Berlin is one of the best non-fiction books I've ever read.

Other than that, I got my hands on a decent book on "butterfly effects" 6 months ago, can't remember the name, but if you're interested I can dig it up.

No worries, both sound interesting, which should I read first?

Read Gulag by Anne Applebaum a while ago, I'll dig it up for some light reading at the LAN if you fancy it.

Go for Berlin. If you fancy it, dig into Stalingrad afterwards - the latter one is more complex in strategy and tactics and requires some digestion while reading.

Berlin deals with the push back since the turn of the war, somewhat right after Stalingrad and it really took my breath away regarding how much of a slaughter and rape it was. Some might wonder why the morbidity of war is fascinating, but human nature in the extreme has always fascinated me.

I bought and read a good book on the submarine battle for the Atlantic a while back. It puts a good perspective on the change in advantages from subs to ships - I will bring it to the LAN. It's the best I've read on the subject.

Look into Capitain Johnnie Walker and the book Walker, RN for more about why the advantage turned from subs to boats during the Battle of the Atlantic.  He was my wife's grandfather.

Cheers TL. Found both on a Danish library somewhere, both books ordered :)

Great book - two thumbs up for this :) Highly recommended if you have a flight as it's interesting and insightful enough to keep you perked up between rounds of coffee. The chapter examining abortion and crime in NYC is startling, as is the chapter examining the economics of drug dealing.

Only word of warning though - probably not long enough if you're going trans-continental.  Of course, given the tardiness of my post that probably doesn't bother you anymore ;)
If I wanted you to understand I would have explained it better
