With the PowerShot A-Series, I find the optical zoom a bit lacking, the Ss have a much more flexible optical zoom, makes a huge difference. You pay more, but the Ss are a much more capable performer.

The wife has a Nikon CoolPix S-10, which she likes and is quite decent, just not enough manual control for me, when I get all arty, luvvie.

For Scenery pictures you could appreciate a wide angle lens. Canon Ixus 860IS has a bit wider angle than most pocket size cameras. I was considering it a few weeks ago, but bought another model because of better manual controls.
