If you want to check your frame rates in CoD4 the command is:

/cg_drawfps 1

Does anyone know how to get a more stable framerate? I have used several console commands for maximum fps/maximum packets/decal drawing and snaps and I do get slightly more stable framerate since fiddleing with these commands. :g:

Although my PC is capable of rendering the game with many of the basic graphics setting turned on and at 1024x768 res, I actually tend to play the game with many of them turned off (keep specular map on so my gold guns look nice) and run in 800x600 in an attempt to get better framerate.

I get anywhere between 8fps and 80fps generally... A steady 40fps would be great.

My computer is built as follows:
MB: Cant remember, its 2yr old. nothing fancy.
CPU: Pentium single core 3ghz. Cant remember fsb speed.
RAM: 1024MB cosair value select. (very basic RAM, also 2yr old)
GRAPHICS: GeForce 9800GT oc 1024MB (new card, PCI-express2.0 ofc)
SOUND: No soundcard, I just use the onboard sound
OS: XP home (would like to keep it this way)

The easiest way is to enable vertical sync and set your monitor refresh rate to 60Hz That way it wont try and render more than 60fps - makes for lovely smooth viewing

Wow, quick reply.

Could not find a setting called "Vertical Sync" but there was a setting called "Sync Every Frame" I turned this on and it seems to of helped a great deal, framerate can still be a little dodgy.... but it feels more stable now.
