The price is quite nice and the performance is great.

Performance looks very promising but I'm disappointed to find yet another Graphics Card review that doesn't tell you how much noise they make (unless I missed it).

The only thing that has annoyed me about my 8800GTX (apart from the fact that it won't play cryis at 4000fps ) is the noise of the fan. It is quiet when it startrts up but after playing a game the fan never seems to spin down again so whatever I replace it with I want it to be both faster and quieter.

4870's should be out today shouldn't they? Can't wait to see a review of that. I don't *think* i'll be waiting for the X2 version, i'll just be getting the 4870 I think. Looks to give far more bang/buck than the nVidia GTX 260/280, though I am willing to be proven wrong by reviews.

So far I think the reviews show you are right. Two 4870s in CF mode seem pretty damn capable.

Hell, that review linked in the first post shows 2 48*50*s in Crossfire coming pretty close to the 280 in some games.

Use nTune (load from nvidia) and manual fan control (performance tab) or game profiles. Then use a program like Speedfan to play a warning sound if the temps go over some set level. Then if that happens switch to Windows and set some more speed in the fan. Works for me.

even better. strip off that inefficient fan cooling block and watercool the suckers. no worries about noise and cooling then :yahoo:

Cake: Four large eggs. One cup semi-sweet chocolate chips. Three/four cups butter or margarine. One and two third cups granulated sugar. Two cups all purpose flour. Fish shaped ethyl benzene. Twelve medium geosynthetic membranes. Three tablespoons rhubarb, on fire.

Yes, and no worries how to RMA it because at the same time you void the warranty. Also bit more noise doesn't matter, because I use a headset so I can't hear much fan noise anyway.

4870 in crossfire mode
Interesting! It looks (to me anyway) that there is something seriously wrong with their crossfire implementation or that the drivers need some work for Crossfire mode. There seems to be little, if any, performance boost with crossfire and, in some cases, it actually gets slower in CF mode.
