I watched those old Amiga game, music and demo vids yesterday too. Somehow it feels like the in the old days games had more atmosphere or 'spirit'. ...or...that they were made more with love  Maybe it is that nowadays the game development is much more like industry and made in bigger group, dunno :g:

I played more simulator like games with Amiga, like the Micro Prose games. Everything that Sid Meier group did was magic (and still is). So many of the games in those vids are familiar to me only by name. But I did play the Alien Breed - it was very addictive, good graphics and the theme music was awesome. It still gives me goose pimps ...and Cannon Fodder...that one song was funny (not show in the vids) "..War never been so much fun..."

Actually that wiki articel must be the only one I feel qualified enough to do few corrections and additions.

It is indeed facinating that e.g Amiga 500 could multitask and operate graphical OS in the computer which had 7.14MHz processor and 512kB of memory.

Amiga had many weird things in hardware at the time. For example sprites and bobs (Blitter Objects) were hardware concepts. If you in PC had to draw a sprite using lot of code and using CPU, Amiga you did that using GPU. Today we see that vector graphics is done in gfx card without CPU doing much. That was similar difference in those days. But much odder things were like having multiple screens with multiple resolution and colour counts and palettes visible at the same time. You could see this e.g in Test Drive 1 and 2 where the data sheet at the bottom used 640x200 and the game screen top 320x200 resolution. The data sheet was scrolled on top the game screen. If this wasn't impressive then the above screen could have a hole in it through which you saw the screen below (think a sniper scope) :blink:

A600
A1200 (upgraded to Hard disk and 68030 processor after a while)

I love the old retro music from the Amiga, Turrican II and Lotus Turbo Challenge where among the best imo.

On a side note, have any of you guys heard of this band, "Press Play on Tape"?  They are a C64 revival band   http://www.pressplayontape.com/
