I want one in COD4!

Watch all of it and you'll also see the mini-rockets it fires later :)

That is not so new idea. Years ago I saw in an articel one Vietnam war era design. It looked like M16, but fired shotgun rounds and had same sort of drum magazine. I guess that must be the ancestor of this design mentioned in the clip.

...managed to find the weapon. It is Atchinsson assault shotgun, fully automatic. This link is finnish, but has pics. I could translate the short data...

Atchinsson assault shotgun
caliber: 12 gauge/(70mm)
year: 1972
production: 1? (prototype)
fire mode: semiauto, fully auto (has a selector)
Rate of fire: 360 /sec or 380 with special ammo
Magazine: 20 shot drum or 5 shot clip
Weight: 5.2kg (empty, no clip), 7.3kg (with full drum)

There seemed to be all sort of special ammo too. Like darts, one firing razor blade type blades. They rotated in the air and cut a wide wound into the target (pic in the link).

When I tryed to find the articel. I found all sort of other links. In one someone mentioned SEALs used/tested a kind of a semi/full auto shotgun in Vietnam the but the recoil was so heavy you couldn't hit anyone after the first shot. It was said it could have used a chain (not veriefied) as well as drum.

I guess the recoil has been the major reason not to start using it in larger scale.

He says that in the movie, but this one has over 200 changes to that model.

there are going to be alot of injured Brits if they start using that
 Bring on the randomness!
Apparently I actually exist! Or maybe it was the drink?

Yeah. I kind of tryed to say that I did notice it ("...mentioned in the clip"). Wonder what those changes are, that it is now usable.

I don't think I would ever use that sort of weapong in full auto mode. Except maybe if I would like to pin someone down, but then I would spend most of time changing the drum. In war games I use e.g assault rifles mostly in semi-auto or burst mode. Then I just shoot quickly 2-3 shots or what is required. The ammo usage is much lower than spraying in full auto and most importantly the accuracy is better. It still seems a good weapon for close quarters if it works well: big drum and new ammo types.

I think the low recoil and ability to put round on round onto a relatively small area (for a shotgun) is what sets this gun apart from previous designs.

Cool idea. With the high-power shells idea it comes close to the semi-automatic grenade launchers, such as gau, milkor or the mm-1. see fx milkor here

Yeah, but I think the main use is bit different. You cannot storm a house with a granade launcher (unless you want to blow yourself up). And those granade launchers are good for putting HE indirectly over longer distances than the shotgun range.

"gau"? To my understanding it is the designation aircraft guns in US air force, usually being  gattling type guns (multibarrel automatic cannons). Like GAU-8 Avenger in A-10. Even those are not technically granade launchers, I guess you can often use them for similar tasks.

What I referred to was the fact that the shotgun in the first post could be loaded with high explosive shells. That would be somewhat the same idea.

Sorry, I was referring to the Strika or Striker (I meant DAO). Gau imho is designation for various automatic weapons placed on planes or helicopters, with the amazing GAU-8 in the A-10 tank killer as the notable beast :) Not sure how GE designates stuff like that...
