Valve's previously-announced steam cloud will finally be launching this week, the Half-Life developer said Monday.
Steam Cloud is a set of free services for Valve's Steam digital distribution platform that allows users to access their own game-generated data, such as game configurations, from any capable computer.
Steam Cloud stores the application data online, linking that data with users' accounts.
The services complement the already available Steam feature that lets PC gamers access their Steam games from any PC.
Support for Steam Cloud will launch with Valve's Left 4 Dead demo this week.
The first release of Steam Cloud will allow users to access their keyboard, mouse and gamepad configurations from any PC. Multiplayer settings like spraypaint images from Team Fortress 2 will also be supported by Steam Cloud.
The service will be updated with more features and improvements as time goes on. The ability to access saves games from any PC will be added "in a future update," Valve marketing boss Doug Lombardi told Edge.
Valve will add Steam Cloud support to its back catalog of Steam games. The feature will be available to all publishers and developers of Steam titles for free.
Valve president Gabe Newell said in a statement that Steam Cloud "makes it easy to upgrade a PC without worrying about losing your games. ... We intend to expand its feature set as it is used in Left 4 Dead and other games coming to Steam."

Very handy...:)

Sounds like a great idea to me. I always get annoyed having to set up my profiles how I like for every PC I use.

Mal: Define interesting...
Wash: Oh god, oh god, we\'re all going to die?

I can't wait for the save games to come to Steam Cloud, I'll never loose my Peggle profile again (I always forget to back it up).

Sounds like a good thing for people borrowing PCs at our LANs.
