I don't know if this is an admin 'perk', but if I click on a name in the Online users list I can see conversations between people. My point is, 1: Should I be able to see these conversation and 2: Shouldn't people be warned about it?

Do you mean visitor messages?

I can see them too but I presumed it was a kind of 'guest signing book' or something.

I can't log out and then access online users to see if it's available for all.

I just logged out and couldn't see them. but at what level can they be seen? :g:

Dunno it's strange.

I don't suppose it's meant to be private if we can see it. After all, we can't see pm's.

It's under public profile so it's for all to see.

My understanding is that Visitor Messages ar elike you signing anyone's Visitor book, it is visible to anyone else who looks at the Visitor book and not private between you and the person you left the message for.   PMs are private, the Visitor Message facility is public.  You can however delete visitor messages from your own message book.

Hope this helps.

As per usual I'm not making myself clear. Is the visitor messaging feature supposed to be able to be seen by anyone that happens to click on a name? If so, then that fact should be made clear. I thought that it was a person to person thing but obviously it's not. On some forums there is a little 'conversation' window and everyone can see that. Ours is a bit ambiguous is all.

It's a new feature of the forum introduced in the last upgrade.

Taken from the options section;
QuoteThis forum features a visitor messaging system that allows members to send messages to one another publicly.

If you do not want to receive visitor messages, you may disable the visitor messaging system.

QuoteWhat are Visitor Messages?

Visitor messages are publicly viewable messages posted on member profile pages. To post a message, click on the 'Visitor messages' tab, and use the form at the top of the section. You will only be able to use certain formatting in these messages, as described underneath the edit box. This message will be viewable by all visitors to this profile, including guest users and search engine robots if the administrator has allowed this. To communicate privately with a member, send a Private Message instead.

Visitor messages can be edited or deleted by site moderators or the member who owns the profile. If you see a visitor message that is not appropriate, you can alert the moderators by clicking on the 'Report' link. The 'View Conversation' link allows you to view all visitor messages between the member and the owner of the profile.

all the info is there for people to see, we're not deliberatly hiding things from them.
