dMr setups?

As you all know the LFS setups are not easy to create or tune, that is part of the fun.

I often stumble across the same issue: Inferno and setupgrid have hotlap, locked diff, high camber setups that I can not drive and burn tyres. Furthermore there is no correct description of how the setup drives / feels, because it is not available in LFS and because the setups are passing quickly from used to user without the original comments.

dMr uses different setups from the majority of LFS users:
Hotlapping - not so much
Endurance racing - kind of, but not alien fast stuff
Sprint racing - Yes, but with enough margin to allow recovery and close racing

So the reason for my question mark is:
Since the setups we need are nowhere to be found, we try to tweak existing to suit our needs. Why not share our discoveries here? This forum would be a cosy place for setups with a short description, open to comments and improvements by others.

Any chance to try?
This thread is probably the wrong place but here is what I would like to find:

Here is my KY nat - XRT setup. Quite stable, more oversteer than the original Todd and also easier on tyres.

It is a mix between my old one and Toddshooter's.
If you need to correct over / understeer do act on:
Ackerman % - changes the feel A LOT, between 20 and 80.
Front ARB - add some if you need understeer.

I used a LSD differential to spare tyres and give more stability under power, and better turn-in.

I tested offline and can run consistently 2.02.XX with this for a few laps, a few 0.1s slower than Todd's but better tyres in the end.

Files that will be enclosed when I find out how to attach something in here :D

 What IS he talking about? The system that is used most commonly is the 'Anyone got a set that doesn't melt tyres?' 'Yeah, I have' 'Bung it over then, cheers' Seems to work ok. You very quickly learn not to ask Deetz because the rear of his cars go quicker than the front, or that one from Lameduck is hotfoot from inferno!

Haha, ain't it the truth :D

I kind of like the idea of having some kind of centralised "database" of setups suited to dMr racing, but I'm not so sure it would work well in practise. After all, everyone has different driving styles and different setup preferences. Like doorz said, the way we currently share setups on the server seems to work well enough for most of us, although I very seldom ask for a setup myself. I usually download one from setupgrid/setupfield and tweak it to my liking, often totally messing it up in the process. I've also noticed that the majority of us often use the same setup for a race.

So... what am I saying? I have no idea :eyebrow: I think it would be nice to have a place where we go to download setups used by people racing on the dMr server. But it's the "how" of it that needs some further thinking about. An idea that popped into my head just now: each week the people that want do so upload the setup they'll be using in the 1hr race to a specified thread/ftp/webspace/whatever, with comments, achieved times, descriptions etc. I'm not sure if it would need seperate threads for each combo, or if it could just go into one general thread :g: The problem is grouping everything in an orderly fashion. Maybe setups could be uploaded to the combo thread that is created every week already? But then the problem would be that you'd need to read through the whole thread looking for uploaded setups... it'd be easier if they were all posted in the first post. But then that would need countless editting until no one would be sure which setups they've already tried and which not.

Argh... like I said, I like the idea, but it needs to be well thought out in order for it to be successfull.

I'm currently "working" on a set for this week's combo, I'm hoping to do some proper testing in the sprint races tonight to see how it goes. Mille, I'd like to give yours a try as well if you don't mind :)

Given that there are websites (Inferno and there are probably others) that do this stuff very well...

True, but like Mille said a lot of those setups often last only a couple of laps, or are difficult to drive making them not suited for longer races. Plus, you really have to try each set to get an idea of how it handles. Whereas if there was a short description with each setup you'd be able to pick the setups you think might suit your driving style based on that.

I've got another idea that may be a bit easier to pull off. Setupgrid offer registered users the ability to make a "setupgrid" specifically for leagues or teams, where only specified users have access to the setups. Could this be worth a shot? Of course it would require people to register there if they want to make use of it, but that takes only 2 minutes of your time. That way people could just go to the Setupgrid site, select the dMr grid and only see the setups used for dMr combo's, uploaded by dMr racers.

I've already made a grid for Dead Men Racing (took about 30 seconds), but I'll need usernames to add so you can access it. Post them here if you're interested. I'm not sure if there's enough interest, but it's only a pitifully small effort so it's worth a shot :)

Doorman

Setupgrid. That's the one I couldn't remember. Well done. :D

Interesting idea, obsolum.
you can add millesabords username to your list.
I'll add my setups there when it's done :)

obsolum

Done. When you're logged in you should be able to click on the drop down list on the left just below the header and select Dead Men Racing (see screenshot). Also, take care to look for setups in the right category by choosing hotlap, sprint or endurance (also in attached screenshot). Same goes for uploading setups :)

I uploaded the setup I'm using for the sprint races in the Sprint category, obviously :)

When you upload a setup, you'll be able to choose to upload it to the dMr setupgrid.

Deetz

Well worth looking into....

Mind reading the SetupGrid EULA, I'm not sure.

What do you mean exactly? This part?

I suppose the bit in bold might be the most important thing here, concerning uploading setups that have been made by someone else (eg. a setup you grabbed from Inferno setupfield). The worst that could happen is that the person who originally made the setup sees that you uploaded it to setupgrid and reports the setup, upon which My3id will remove it from the grid after investigation. That's it However, seeing as the setups you upload to the DMR setupgrid are private and thus can't be seen by anyone else outside the people that I give access, I don't think you'll have much to worry about. Also, if you've made enough changes to a setup I think it's debatable whether the setup really still "belongs" to its original creator, and that it'll be much harder for a possible claimant to prove that he originally made the set. Seriously, I don't see anything to worry about :) Like I said, the worst that can happen is that My3id remove the setup from the site.

Unless you were talking about something else in the EULA?

Uploaded my setup - have fun with it :)

Good set! Definitely better than the one I was using. I jacked up the tyres pressures, though, 'cause they were too low for my liking. I'll still have to watch them closely and pay attention to my driving style. The XRT is so fun to slide around corners I constantly find myself stomping the throttle mid corner and sliding out of it "dorifto" style :D

I'm looking forward to tonight's race. Should be great if we get a large grid. And let's hope the disco's stay away this time...
