As the title says, if I right click the COD 4 icon I get explorer + dr. watson crash. I have googled about 50 pages and can't find an ansfer. So anyone here that has seen anything like this ?

- It is bougth via steam and has been uninstalled/ installed again, same applies to punkbuster.
- I can left click the icon and it works(launches the game)
- Noticed this as I tried to change the shortcut to join straight a dmw server
- I have run a full virus scan with F-secure, all clean.

This has caused also that while trying to delete certain .exe files it crashes again, but installing SP2 again worked on the .exe file removal.
And I'm getting pretty sure it has something to do with COD4...

This is getting annoying! :ranting2:

Try left clicking once on the icon to select it (Im assuming it is on your desktop) and, with it selected, press ALT and ENTER together which will give you the properties box you are trying to get to (hopefully)

Jabbs

When right clicking, It's trying to load something in the context menu which is causing the issue.  There are programs out there that allow you to choose what you see in the context menu.  Might be an idea to get one of those and step by step work out which one of the programs is causing this issue.

I think programs like ContextEdit or Tuneup Utilities or maybe even Tweakui will do it.

Or possibly something like this page will help?
Start Folding and get yourself one of those nice new badge thingies, it\'s a good cause.  Check out the stats

The alt + enter doesn't work, still crashes.
And I still have to look at that context menu thing that Jabbs said.
But still very odd that the problem occurs with only COD.

Have you tried deleting the shortcut icon and creating a new one?

Yep did that on reinstall.

Do you mean that the install program created a shortcut or that you manually created a shortcut yourself?

If you let the Install program create the shortcut and it is this that is causing the problem then I suggest you delete the one created by the install program and created your own by right dragging on the iw3mp.exe and creating a shortcut on your desktop. I have seen several install programs create shortcuts recently where the shortcut refers to a GUID registry entry as opposed to linking directly to an exe file.

Hope this works for you?

After many frustrating months with this problem it has finally been solved!
All credit goes to Kreg, as he pointed me to a Securom topic on some forums.
The problem was in secuRom and I didn't even have a clue that I had it.....  it came with C&C Kane's Wrath. And to my luck there was a patch to it. You have no idea how liberating it is that I can RIGHT-CLICK and icon and whole computer won't crash :yahoo:
Thanks also to all the tried to help in the first place. Maybe now I can join the L4D server.

The forum topic talking about it Link
And the solution: www.securom.com/support/repair.zip

Best bet would be to link the solution then, sure as fate someone will come looking for it and there's nothing worse than finding a thread which ends with "Nevermind got it working now, found a solution on another forum!" :D
