Does anyone use Outlook 2007?

I thought I shoug migrate from Eudora as it's so old and Outlook is probably the next best for me. I have tried Thunderbird and much as I love all things Mozilla it's not quite right for me.

What I'm trying to avoid is having a huge .pst datafile so I'm looking to store the emails in a different folder that tjhe .pst one. Is that possible?

Also, how do I move the attachments directory????

Unless you run an exchange server, outlook will use one huge PST file.

TBH, unless you run an exchange server, I cannot recommend outlook for normal email as it just isn't as good as other clients.

Hmm ok.

I think I should probavbly run an exchange server but it all looks so horrifyingly complicated. I do like the idea of having the outboxes stored locally.

We've got a 3 man mail team on site to admin our exchange mail system. How many people are you doing this for? Are you really sure it's worth the time, effort and money to run an exchange server?

Why not install ZCS? It's free and in my opinion far superior to exchange.

Nothing much wrong with Outlook per se.  It can cope with massive PST files as long as the PC it's running on is decent spec.

You can always set it to archive to archive.past more often than the default (can't remember what the default is).

At least you get calendar, tasks, contacts and notes which Thunderbird as an email client doesn't do.

I suppose you could get Small Business Server (SBS) which comes with an 'easier' version of Exchange (POP set up etc). Version 2008 is latest.

But you will still need a good amount of technical savvy to get you through.  I've installed it for customers of mine and it can take a day to setup or more if you have no clue.

The nice thing about SBS of course is that it becomes the domain controller for the PC's in the domain so you can log on to the domain from any domain connected PC (each PC would have to be setup to do that).

Gandy, I tried Zimbra but couldn't get it to work offline at all or install on the desktop. Tried on a couple of machines.

OK I think I got a work around.

I've set up Outlook but have separated the datafiles so each email account has its own datafile.

The only thing I can't seem to change is the 'sent file' folder. It seems to stay in the Personal Folders regardless of where I try to move it to.

IF anyone knows how to move that, please let me know :blink:
