Right - after looking at the extortionate cost of smaller sized but high still reasonably high-spec laptops, I have sacrificed a bit of portability to get this:

The only weakness I can see is the wireless card not supporting N but if that really bugs me I can always get a dongle I suppose.

What do people think?

Gah, I just looked at one of the new 13" MacBooks, with 4GB RAM for Ã,£763.40 (Not Inc Vat)

More portable, more battery life, but more expensive.

  • 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
  • 4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
  • 250GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm
  • NVidia Geforce 9400M
Having a gaming capable laptop isn't going to help me really, and I definitely don't need one, my desktop will cope until I sort my life out and get more money.

A Mac will be better at the sort of multi-tasking high memory stuff I'm going to be doing. All the programs I use are Mac compatible. It'd be good for the photography I do as well. And it's shiny and small and light and stuff...

I think I've pretty much convinced myself really...

Yes, but it's a Mac.

I have a 15" MacBook Pro is awesome, i don't have a gaming rig anymore just a xbox360 and its the best thing i have done :D

I use it primarily for listening to music, films, editing photo's and music production. Its crap for games but then i have a 360.

Take the Apple plunge!

Don't ban me

The only point really is that you can get a superior machine for less.  In terms of OS, for those who don't like Windows, linux is free and more stable than OSX.

Apple love to market to the belief that Macs are better for creative, multimedia tasks carried out by creative, multimedia people.  That belief has always been false (hell it existed even before Apple made OSX - despite old MacOS being the very definition of 'bland and uninspiring').  In fact I'm sure there is almost nothing that you could do on a Mac better than you could do it on Ubuntu, much less Windows.

I guess then that my main beef with Macs is that they seem pretty pointless.
