Right, after a fortnight of good LFS'ing, rFactor and HistoriX mod are downloading... (a big download!). I can, however, see  it is a trial - but how much of a trial is it? Any limited functions etc? Should I end up wanting to buy it, how many people race that mod here, are there regular dMr races etc? Is it worth it or is this mod dying?

Edit: My main interest would be the HistoriX mod

From what I've heard you can't install the HistorX mod with the trial version of rF. So you either need to purchase rF or uhm... find another way to somehow obtain a full version :flirty:

You also need a copy of GT Legends, depending on which version of the HistorX mod you're downloading. I've seen versions that don't require you to have a GTL disc.

Obviously you need rfactor but it can be obtained very cheaply. Jamin got his cheap and could probably tell you where. PM him. You will need a copy of GTL which I know you have, or had anyway. Check out the rFactor section of dMr. We have some damned fine facing! :D (and some crap racing too on occasions ) Friday night....

Damn, saw your posts too late, bought the damn game for 34 euros. What is cheap, for that game?

Yes, I played GTL lots, but I seem to have misplaced my DVD. I have the cover lol. Hmm... bought and download 1GB rFactor. Then downloaded 1GB HistoriX download. Now to get my hands on a GTL DVD. Phew, I hope this is worth it  :D

For 34€ you get access to a whole world of track and mods. The basic rFactor ain't worth a light but what you can tack on to it is. HistoriX, Caterhams, Corvette C6 are among the best. So you've not wasted your money. imho :D

Thank you guys for the help here and in PMs, I have it sorted now :D

I did a brief spin in the Lotus Cortina, and well, the 911. And the Mustang. And the Falcon. And the CSL. And... I LOVE the "real feel" plugin! Makes it hard, but such a good feel.

Only downside - when doing, say, 50 mph, the sensation of speed in corners is very low. More like 30. Is it just me?

That's a new one on me. Must be just you.:D Glad you're sorted. You've now got the happy task of collecting THIS LOT!

Have you been away from simracing for a while? Sensation of speed is what most beginning drivers have problem with. When I get friends around trying my sim they most often brake too late and crash in the first corner. :D A while ago a friend tried iRacing for the first time, drove 200km/h to the first corner, and crashed to a tree approximately 100m away from the track. He thought he was driving around 100mk/h.

Speed is something you need to adjust to instead of feeling it the way you do in real life. Feel of speed in simracing does not correlate with the real speed in the same way it does with a real car, in my opinion. This might change if the scenery would be drawn to completely fill our field of view. I have 3 screens and the total resolution is about 3700x1050, and I have an impression that it improves the feel of speed a bit, but does not really make it realistic.

This post might not help you a bit, but what I'm saying that we all (most probably) feel the same, but we are already so used to it that we are not even aware of the problem anymore.

I have been away a while, but that said, I have been refreshing LFS for two weeks before going into this mod. And the sensation is different, compared to LFS, imho :) And you are probably right, I just need to be adjusted to the other sim :)

I find that the field of view (FOV) makes a lot of difference for the sensation of speed. The higher the FOV, the faster it feels. I think it's because the trees and stuff go whooshing past near the edges of the screen. :) Do you use the same FOV setting in LFS and rFactor?

Oh, and welcome to the world of HistorX! :byebye:

I have in fact just changed that to 75Ã,° in HistoriX and that helped quite a bit :) Still not quite the same, but helped a lot. I do use the trackIR so my positioning changes from time to time and since I look into the corner I don't see the trees etc. on the outside of the corner. Perhaps that is why the speed sensation is low...:g:
