seating and power in the lan room

poped in to the oliver cromwell today as i was passing to check out the power points around the room, under the guise of "rethinking the seating arrangements that we usually have"

power units are around all walls at about a 5m spread - no problems at all.

2 ideas that were brought up about seating (as there will be a fair few of us)

2 long tables down the center of the room would provide the most seating (14-15 per side, making 56-60) or another option

2 long tables and then a server table on the end (10-11 down each long side table and 6 per side on server table 52-56)

Ofcourse we can juggle this a bit but i thought id post what was discussed.
the long tables may well lead to more even power distribution, a 3 point plug for each 2 people along the length.

The only downside being how close the middle two are back to back? You don't want to be constantly knocked if the seats are up against each other?

And if you are the person right at the top end in the corner and you need to go for a widdle is there enough room to casually stroll past the others?
I think it's quite a wide room and the two rows idea might work, but then quite often you have groups of people standing around and generally chatting, will there be enough space for that too?
 
Remember that some people bring their own chairs and may require a bit more space.

We can accommodate 44 fine with the current configuration which is what we have for this LAN.

We need to give the hotel the floorplan so Alan can do the tables prior to our arrival. If we re-jig it and then find it doesn't work it's going to be a right old buggers muddle getting it sorted in the midst of people arriving.

Personally I'd rather leave it as is for this LAN and look at it while we're all there so we can plan out how we can rearrange the tabling to possibly accommodate more for the future. (EG when the room is empty on Sunday we can physically move the tables around and see what else we can come up with - We can then mock it up and check the spaces between chairs etc). My biggest issue with two long tables is that it's harder to talk to people whereas with rows you can pretty much see everyone to communicate with them (albeit some with their backs to you).

My 2 cents anyway.

it was actually alans suggestion about the tables if we wanted to accomadate more.

room is 50ft long 21ft wide

tables are 6ft x2.5ft and 4ft x2.5ft

So what we going to do?

1. Leave it as is for this LAN with a view to looking at other potential configurations

2. Go for broke and change it this LAN.

Ill agree pen, if we need more space then we can discuss other configerations at the upcoming lan as a plan for the future

I say leave as is, then play on Sunday.  Then we can open it to more people if we like it.

If we could make a decesion on this so a plan for how the switches will be layed out.
