Check out the first, Forza - is that really in-game or what? :g:

Damn it looks good. I have never driven Forza, but isn't the 360-equivalent to the Gran Turismo on the PS3?

The in-car renderings are nice as well:

Gran Toursimo is one of the few games that would make me consider a PS3.

Those shots look amazing though

Forza is indeed the 360 equivalent of the Gran Turismo series. I've got Forza 3 on preorder, and have played the demo on my 360. It does indeed look very tasty, and is a proper sim racer with the options to adjust lots of things I don't understand like wheel camber and gear ratios and the like while at the same time having all sorts of optional aids so that people who aren't uber hardcore don't get put off.

One thing to bear in mind is that screenshots and videos of the game have generally been taken in the replay mode. The developers have been a bit cheeky in that in replay mode, as they're not processing AI and such, they use the 'free' CPU cycles to add post processing effects that aren't present when you're actually racing. Thus screenshots and videos, while technically made using the 'in-game' engine, still look better than when you're actually racing. GT5 I believe does exactly the same thing. As far as I can tell from actual gameplay videos and the like the two have roughly similar texture resolutions, polygon counts etc etc, but GT5 has a better lighting engine. That is not, however, enough to make me buy a PS3. For some reason i've never been able to 'get in' to the GT series, whereas I love Forza.

Here's a vid of Forza 3 actual proper in game racing. It's showing driving aids (recommended line and braking line), speedo, map etc which you don't normally get on a replay, which leads me to believe it's actually properly in-game along with it not looking quite as nice as it should do otherwise:

Whereas this advert vid for the Ferrari 458 Italia has had the extra post-processing done from replay mode added:

By comparison, this is the 458 Italia video that was made by the Gran Turismo guys. The first section, before you see the car actually on the track coming towards the camera, I believe has been pre-rendered rather than being in game. The rest, in-game but using the replay post-processing, IMO:

I hasten to point out that I am Not Very Good (tm), which is one of the reasons I haven't joined in dMr. I am however better at racing with a gamepad than with a wheel, so if anyone else gets Forza 3 and wants to hit some tracks on XBox Live then give me a shout :) Just be gentle ;) My main issues is actually the close racing. With an open track I can do just fine. When bunched up with other cars I don't react fast enough when they brake etc if it's before I was going to, so I tend to bump far too much :(

Mal: Define interesting...

Cheers for the wrap up. If only this was out for PC...

Noo  don't say that... come on in and join mate. It has no importance how good you are. And that is really true. As long as you share the spirit of the lot, i.e. not doing destruction derby, not going the wrong way purposedly, not flaming etc. - general dMw code really - there is room for all.

The braking and distance - there is nothing wrong with you, that is something we all try and get right and fail at from time to time. Fx at the 1 hour race, there is nothing you want to do less than knock out a fellow racer, because it puts him out of action for a whole hour, or knocks him into last place with 10 mins to the next, yet it still happens :)

LFS is a cheap game, the networking part is so good that we can share setups etc with a click of a mouse, so you will be racing in no time. And enjoying the banter :) You can also get a wheel really cheap these days - which would work for any racing sim...
