just found this while surfing

http://www.wow.com/2009/10/07/patch-3-3-emblems-of-triumph-to-be-the-new-base-emblems/

looks like blizzard are doing it to us again, by changing what emblems heroics drop,

this is not a final change, so they might decide to keep things the way they are:ranting2::ranting2:

Well... tbh I gave up on criticizing this. And to be frank I have some 65 or so triumph emblems sitting in my bag atm, as I'm not sure what to get with them. The only logical spending I can think of right now is in combination with another Trophy of the Crusade as all the stuff I can get without one are marginal upgrades at best, on par with or below what we can get through killing ToC bosses.
or Garrit, or Torgen. Also, Livestream.

bloody hell even more dumbing down of gear and therefore content

not necessarily content imo. The sense of achievement doesn't really seem to be about gear anymore really, more about achievements and hardmodes. This means that in turn they can be more liberal in giving out the loot that is easily accessible from normal mode fights. Achievements is what truly sets the uber guilds apart from the mainstream guilds.

I think so too. Now the real challenge are the hard modes, since you can see people happily (or unhappily :narnar:) pugging raids like ToC 10 men and ulduar 25, which should be pretty high end content raids. It really seems blizz wanted to hand players 2 kind of dungeons: the easy one that can be even pugged to let everyone see the content and the hard one designed to let the skilled players have their fun. If you add in this the truly hard achievement, like ys +0, you have quite some difficoulty levels for almost every taste.
However getting t9 from UK sounds a bit lame...

Azunai

Why? T9 isn't the top tier anymore anyway. The concept of the system is that even people who reroll or are new to the game can get into high end raiding without having to somehow manage to run entire Naxx and Ulduar to catch up in gear first. They don't have any more or less trouble to get into IC than we had back in the days before we could do Naxx. The thing we have over them is that we saw more content. And the thing the uber guilds have over us is that they have the hardmodes done. The whole system just goes up a tier with every new major content patch. Simple yet effective:

Patch 3.0: @80 you run heroics to get basic epics, you raid and get T7
Patch 3.1: @80 you run heroics to get T7, you raid and get T8
Patch 3.2: @80 you run heroics to get T8, you raid and get T9
Patch 3.3: @80 you run heroics to get T9, you raid and get T10

The steps between dinging to 80 and raiding remain the same no matter what point in time you enter the scene. And to avoid erectional disfunctions in the e-peens of the uberguilds the sense of achievement comes from a whole different source: Hardmodes.

By putting "casuals need to be able to raid" on a completely different track from "hardcore guilds need a big and exclusive digital rod to stroke", I think Blizz have managed to sidestep the issue from TBC.

/agree with Azunai. My guild is quite small, with a turnover of a couple of people every few months as people leave due to real life and new people we've got into the game level up or people level alts to fill class requirements (well, tank/heal/dps requirements). If we had to go back to doing a stack of heroics and Naxx runs (and Ulduar runs, once we get onto ToC) to level the new entries up for a few weeks before we were able to get back into the latest content we're at, we'd never get *anywhere*. As it is, we can run a load of quick heroics, get them the gear level below where we are currently, and then have them come into the raid and actually be able to be a reasonable help right off the bat. And as has been said, all the people wanting to stroke their epeens can do so with hardmode achievements instead of just gear. The whole system allows more people to see the content Blizz takes so much time and effort to produce, which can only be a good thing. It doesn't make sense for them to make content only 5% of their audience get to see, becuase everyone else would get bored and stop playing. It's why we're getting new 5 mans with each patch as well, which are harder and give a sense of progression for people not even able to 10 man raid. That didn't happen with vanilla or TBC, you just got new raids added.

Becouse in tbc no serious guild raided "lower" raids anymore, and if you wanted to see them, you had to pug the group for it, with all the pros and cons of that. However, since in WotLK people is raiding end game raids anyway, maybe that is a good improvement to the game. I can only notice that for this guild, the introduction of emblems of conquest farming spared us weeks of gearing up. My delusion about emblem of triumph dropped by a 350k mob (you can't call it boss anymore) that you can kill in less than 40 seconds, it's just... i don't know... Anyway it's going to be there on the next patch, whatever are my thoughts about it. I just feel a bit annoying to have to do something for the 1000k time, like killing again the mobs in UK or UP, or whatever heroic.
