So rather than spamming the LAN section I thought we can discuss the format for the LAN L4D games here and post it as a fait-acompli in the LAN section when done.

There have been a few proposals but time seems to be at a premium.
So we need a quick format that gets the initial rounds over with.

So I thought:-

All players put names into a hat. Someone picks names at random to form the teams. Should we have a seperate Admin team? Might make it easier as we can get all the other games sorted and then do ours last?

How about one level only, played through once (i.e. each team has one go as Survivors and one as Infected)
Teams toss for who gets to be Survivor/Infected first.
Scores are noted.
Prepare for moaning about tanks and witches.
Team with the highest score goes through to the next round.

Final will be the last three levels of a campaing played through once. Or maybe the whole of the new Crash-Course campaign?
Teams toss for who starts as Survivor/Infected.
Prepare for moaning about tanks and witches.
Scores are noted and highest wins.

Thoughts?
I do exactly what the little voices tell me to.

PC Specs:- Black box with some fans that go whirrr, a few lights, things inside that get warm, headphones, keyboard (a clicky one), mouse (with buttons and no squeak), disks (2-off SSD and HDD) and a monitor of sufficient proportions.

I like the idea of the game format sounds good, but I am sorry I am not keen on the Admin team.  Cause I know it going to be a uphill struggle with anyone that has me on there team, against admin team it wont be pretty :)

A fighting chance is what I am thinking.

But I do understand why you would like a admin team match and I am sure it could be organised.  But for the main compertion I not sure.

my 2 cents, but I am willing to play whatever is chosen.

The reason for keeping us seperate is that it will provide a number of people to get the other games organised and started easily and quickly. How many people it needs is dependant on the number of servers available.
We could just be muddled in with the others and just have to stagger the games a bit so there is always someone available to admin?

Understand the point Brother T, how about 1 admin per team where poss.

TBH the admins haven't won a match yet. So the challenge won't hurt...

I agree with Tobes.

I'd rather leave it randomised. The whole idea of the comps is that it's a real mix of players - from those who play regularly to those who are playing it at the LAN for the first time. Besides, the Community get to play the admin team as it is - let's mix it up. It's not the skill factor I'm thinking about, it's the principle.

That said, I don't mind Benny's idea of having one admin per team as the team captains or whatever and then draw the rest from the hat.

My 2 cents anyway.. :)

OK so the admin team is out, but what about the game format? Does it sound acceptable?

Yes I am all in favour of the route Snooks. I like the idea of one admin on each team, then we will all have at least one person who knows how to play on each team.

Whatever you guys think will work best given the LAN setup really. So long as one person on each team (i.e. the admin) knows the route then happy days.

final will have to be same lenght as the normal games, we dont have a lot of time to be playing prolonged games, maybe if there is time then play a longer game for the final if not then same length

Looks fine to me Sn00ks, the final can be decided on the spot. Worst case 1 map, if agreed with the other team we can add more.

Panties = unbunched.

I can't imagine we'll have a huge number of teams anyway.

OK then we're all agreed  :D.

Now to decide on the map. One with an event in, like the crane or the bridge in the sewers, or a plain old map?

For the final I think the first level of CrashCourse with the option of adding the second one if there is enough time.

Err, I think you've got the wrong idea about the admins "skills".

Our main 'skill' is picking the format of the scoring system on Wednesdays 'after' the game is finished.

Hence we always win.

I don't think this model would be allowed at the LAN, pretty much any of the guys who do play us on Wednesdays won't want an Admin in their team.

It's imperative that each team has at least one person who knows the map/route.

Aww, that'll spoil all the fun of having four players who don't know where they are going getting slowly taken apart :roflmao:

But I can see that it won't encourage people to play the game again if they are getting stomped.

So agreed format is:-
All players put names into a hat. Experienced players in one hat and newbs in another. Someone picks names at random to form the teams, some from each hat (numbers to be determined by how many of each type enter)

One level only (Blood Harvest 3?), played through once (i.e. each team has one go as Survivors and one as Infected)
Teams toss for who gets to be Survivor/Infected first.
Scores are noted.
Prepare for moaning about tanks and witches.
Team with the highest score goes through to the next round.

Final will be the new Crash-Course campaign, depending on time both levels may be played or just the first, played through once (i.e. each team has one go as Survivors and one as Infected)
Teams toss for who starts as Survivor/Infected.
Prepare for moaning about tanks and witches.
Scores are noted and highest wins.

I was thinking...

see how many people play....get a couple of teams together......chortle heartily at the losers.....get more pished and fall over?

Isn't that good enough?
