Right then gents, all is well, but we now need a plan. There a fair number on last night and it becomes apparent that after a certain number, thoses who know the mission are fine, those who don't are kinda screwed.

So, either we need the ingame comms to work with channels for global/team and squad, or we need ventrilo/TS et up the same.

Failing that, people need to talk less and let the SL take charge. Thoughts?

I don't want it all serious but at the same time don't want new players scared off because they can't get involved. It's hard enough getting used to the game with small numbers, lets make sure we don't lose anyone though lack of trying.

Well said.  Personally I'm in favour of the in-game comms system which has nice support for command/squad level comms and even things like vehicle crew/direct comms.  In my experience it has never been as unusable as people have suggested.

Proper use of comms is definitely important for directing players when we have more than 6-7 people.  Several TK incidents last night, while annoying, I actually also found quite interesting in that they illustrated how easily friendly fire might happen in the real world when there is confusion and poor comms.

That's a good start.

We really must get to grips with the Order menu, so we can give people HUD markers to show them where the Squad Leader wants them to go/do.

Oh dear, was I that obvious? I confess that arriving late into a mission is not the best way forward. I had no idea what anyone was talking about. Not your fault you understand but it's not the kind of game that you can just drop in on. Well, not for me anyway.

:roflmao: The thought occurred to me that if you were a soldier and were late for an invasion and you asked 'Which way did they go?' 'Over that way, between the two hills' 'Any chance of a lift?' 'Sorry mate, you'll have to walk'

Maybe a designated start time?

I loved the chopper attack on the church :roflmao:
But indeed there needs to be one leader who tells where to go and how, rest just follows and reports what is happening. If we want it realistic as possible there is one commander, and under him the group leaders. Commander gives orders to groups and groups leaders execute them. But that requires different channels for groups etc, or how does the ingame voice system work ?

I'm not convinced we've got the numbers for a proper comms chain of command, but it's definatly something we should try and use if the games continue to grow.

Yep! Good points Mr B.

I joined for the first time ever last night and whilst I was having connection, gfx and comms problems I could still see the need for some structure.

I honestly feel that someone or a few people need to take the bull by the horns and really get serious in the squad leader role. To make it enjoyable for all.

We need to know, where we are going, what to do when we get there and most of all where the damn enemies are.

My leadership was lacking err leadership that night. I think next time we need to make rondevu points before we re-enter combat.

The other thing we need to do is cut back on chitchat when there is more than 4 or 5 on TS. It can be becomes hard to communicate.

Also, can people please not say "me" when on TS? For example, if someone says "Who is on the gun on my chopper?"
Saying "Me" doesn't help, as if the pilot wants to spot a target for you, he won't know who to call!!!

Guilty as charged!

I'll answer the roll call properly next time. :D

I must admit that for most of last night I thought I was using the game comms when in fact I was on Team-speak. Still working out all the controls.
