Kreg v Claw

I was informed tonight that Kreg is very upset about the thread regarding Backup.
He is considering quitting dMw (which I think I have averted)
He says that Claw made a personal attack and called him a liar.
His main gripe afaics is that the dMw standards are not being upheld/enforced.
I have talked him down from the ledge, but wanted you all to be aware of the situation.
This Claw fella has to my knowledge been rude and abrasive on at least 2 threads. He seems to know everything about everything and ain't shy about telling everyone.
I don't know whether it's just a language thing or if the bloke is a bit of a Pr1ck.

Firstly, I think this thread should be transferred to Moderator Section, but have left it here in case Kreg submitted it in confidence.

Sometimes translation can provoke major storms in a minor tea cup.  Claw seems to be one of these people that suffers from this tendency to be misunderstood and his written responses seem to be very abrupt & caustic.  I actually just re-read the thread and specifically the bit where Claw quoted and responded to Kreg and I have to say that I can understand why Kreg got upset (although I think his threat to quit dMw is not sensible).

When I read Claw's response I felt obliged to correct his mis-statements, clearly so did many others in the community yet he continued to bury his head in the sand and to re-state things.  I realised yesterday that my involvement in the thread had come close to, or was, breaking the forum standards rules on flame wars so I sent this PM to Penfold as relevant SA and cc'd OB for info:

Can I ask you to plough through the Backup thread please with your Moderator's hat on.  I wan tot check I have not strayed into 'flame' territory.

I was going to send him a PM which included this:

I have nothing against you so I am hoping that the 'someone has it in for me' comment was not aimed at me.

Perhaps the translation of your post to english is causing some problems, but the reason the thread has mushroomed is not because someone has jumped on you, but the way your response to Bob and Whitey reads.  You made some pretty large claims and statements in those posts which people (me included felt oblighed to reply to).  Maybe you need to re-read those to understand why the thread got heated.

....but I decided not to get involved and ask you to take a look to see if it needs moderating.

As you can see I was actually more concerned with my own level of anger with Claw and if it had pushed me into a 'flame war', hence my rather concilliatory post at the end of the thread.  However, having re-read it I hope Penfold looks at all the responses including those from Claw, Kreg and others.

The responses from Claw to Kreg were, with hindsight, out of order imo.  He flat calls Kreg a liar and tbh I missed those comments in reading the thread as in the red-mist I was more interested in Claw's responses to me.

I also wonder if there is some hidden 'competition' between Claw & Kreg due to both of them being involved int he overclocking world?

I would suggest that Penfold as Section Admin - Forum takes over this issue (that's why I PM'd him yesterday) and deals.

My own biased view is that:

• Claw does need a warning for his attitude on the forum,
• his comments about Kreg need to be removed from our forums
• he should apologise to Kreg for the incorrect public comments (I happen to know Kreg a little; he is a hardware review writer and a very well respected member of one of the world's top overclocking teams and he does indeed go through that many HDDs and entire systems each year, so to be called a liar on the forum and for action not to be taken would in my eyes be wrong)
• He needs someone to explain to him & help him understand that the way he posts his english is sometimes exceptionally confrontational and rude, not to mention plain wrong.  I'm pretty sure that if you spoke to him in the manner he posted (or even quoted it back at him) on Teamspeak then he would feel the rudeness and aggressiveness in his posts.

Over to you Penfold, you're the Section Head - Forum and I think this one needs your input and action please.

It looks like he offended a few people with that thread.  I too was concerned about getting into a flame war and tried to just keep to the facts.

I've re-read it twice now.

It actually started OK and just seemed to go downhill.

I have to say Claw's vitriolic writing style would hack me off too.

I've deleted and amended where I've seen fit (not just Claw's). I'm sending him a pm too warning him and reminding him of our Forum AUP .
