However being a complete pedant it occurs to me that the employer should try to get their facts right. Lap dancing in the UK is illegal, so it's going to be hard to do any research into it.

What I think the advert is referring to is 'table dancing'. Lap dancing is a service common in the USA where a lady of the night dances for a client and actually makes body contact by sitting in the clients lap and wriggling about, hence the term 'lap dance'. In the UK it's considered to be a form of prostitution and therefore illegal. What we have here is 'table dancing'. With Table Dancing the performer only dances at/near your table. It's absolutely forbidden for the dancer and the client to make any sort of physical contact. Westminster Council stipulate a 1 yard gap between performer and patron. There was even a case where a club was prosecuted because a girl with very long hair allowed her hair to come into contact with a punter. It was considered physical contact and the club got done.

So there you go, the job description is wrong. However as the press (who get most things wrong) don't seem to care I imagine the term lap dancing will enter common speech. Much like the innocent term 'computer hacker' was changed by the press from a term meaning software coder to computer criminal.
