I've had a few comments questions in the last day or two about the different LAN badges and what they mean. So I thought I'd post a quick explanation as quite a few of your will notice new badges or see existing badges disappear. We have three LAN badges which use the image of a suitcase and come in gold, red and green versions.

The Gold LAN Badge is a permanent badge awarded to the LAN administrators. Until this week it was held by Sheepy who was our LAN overlord. In the last few days Sheepy has stepped down and Ninja_Freak and BrotherTobious have taken over the reigns, hence they now sport the nice new shiny Gold LAN Admin badge.

The Red LAN Badge is given to anyone who assists the two LAN admin's in organising the LAN both in the run up and during the event. It relates to the most recent LAN so if you were a helper in October 2010 but not April 2011 you won't have the badge.

The Green Badge is awarded to anyone who attended one of the last two LAN's i.e. within the last rolling twelve months. Oct 2010 and April 2011 attendees will have the badge but if you last came to a LAN in April 2010 you will no longer have the badge. It's conceivable that someone could help with the pre planning of the LAN but not actually be able to attend. Therefore the Red and Green badges are separate and can be awarded to one person. The reason for it being two LAN's is that it links in with the annual supporting members subscription. Supporting members get a LAN discount and it all ties up nicely with the awarding of the Green LAN badge.

As to why the LAN badge system fell into such neglect over the last twelve months, well the badge system can help you with this as well. Just look for the forum member who sports a Gold Forum Admin badge (black speech bubble in a gold square). Go blame them as they're frankly rubbish.
