QuoteHow does VIP invites work?
VIP invites by modifying with the reserve list of the reserve interactively according to invitation, when an invitation is issued, either through website or WolfCon directly, a reserve slot is added to the server under the invite name. If the option is set, the server will also kick the last joined player if there are not enough space on the server.
When the player joins, or if the invite expires, the reserve slot will be returned back to the server to ensure the server has the maximum number of available public slots possible.
I'd like to know more about these VIP  invites, particularly how we could offer them to members either manually or preferably via a web system.  Can someone go research this and become the expert please!

QuoteWeb Linked VIP system
Includes 2 php sample scripts that allows you to issue VIP invites through a website and let your members reserve slots for themselves, fully automated.
If this works, the next question is to whom the invites should be accesible.  Perhaps Web-based for Supporting Members?

Follow up question, how does it decide  who to kick.  Yes the newest person on the server, but does it have an exclusion list that we can run which will mean it will not kick a dMw member for a VIP.....you see where I am coming from!

Info please!

If it does have an exclusion list then in my opinion it should only be supporting members who are listed in it, as it's the supporting members who help fund the server.

All,

This is something that we need to do for the community. As the userbase grows, our supporting members should be able to get on the server when it's filled with publics.

I'm looking into this myself but we also need to look into the WolfSpawn client as well.

I agree with Whitey.

I know that it's Community-wide but we're always looking for added value for our supporting members which lifts them from the rest (I think it was Doorman who, in his own inimitable style, coined them stinkin' freeloaders).

Anything we can do to make supporting member status more attractive gets my vote.

We must also remember that this is a major departure for us and kicking people to make way for others is something we've never done before and I'd really like to keep it to a minimum where we can. Restricting it to supporting members at least gives us some control over numbers and frequency. Can we start it with that and see how it goes. We can roll it out further as necessary but if we blitz it to start with it's a lot harder to then go and remove it.

Ok, ive looked into the VIP system and tbh its easy if your doing via the tool but the website invite is kinda messy (for me atleast) since it requires copying a file from WolfCon folder on to the website.

If you can understand whats being said here, then gl, your doing the VIP invite system:

I'll run with it and work on it with Whitey.

Thanks for all of your efforts thus far.

Whitey can we handle this?  If so it needs to go to a Supporting Member only page or part of the website?  We might need to pull Gandalf in to look at it too if we need a Supporting Member only page.

Noted in the Web Admin WIP list.

I know there's a bit of testing going on in the background on this so I've been doing a bit of digging.

Essentially, a VIP invite creates a reserved slot in that player's name. Once the player joins (or attempts to join) a player will be kicked according to the criteria set on the server. (low score or last joined).

Before we embark on the web page route, have we been able to use the VIP invite from within WolfCon successfully? I think there may be an issue with the name what we need to figure out first. Not sure if it needs to include the tag or not. I've made some enquiries at LionGuards and the belief is that it's just the in game name.

If we can make sure that is the case and that the VIP invites work from within WolfCon (or WolfSpawn for that matter) then we can progress to the web-based invite system.

Just a quick update. On Saturday we had a case where the server was full and Blunt wanted in. I set up an VIP invite on his gaming name to see if it would work.

From the off he said he couldn't get in. Once I booted a public it reserved the slot for him (ie: kept it open). Perhaps I was a bit too quick off the mark and it needs a few minutes to register the invite before he can jump on and the system will kick the public.

I will do some further investigations on Friday.

The thing to remember is that it won't just kick a public but the last person to join that isn't on the Immunity list!  At the moment we don't have anyone on the list so if you create a slot for Blunt and one of the members has just joined, it would kick them to make way for blunt.

There is an option to add a Clan Tag to the immunity list so that might be a way around it.

That sounds like a great idea to start with Whitey.
