disc healer

Since we lost our disc healer i am thinking of getting this as a second spec and try it out a bit to see how much it will contribute to the raid (which i think ofc will.)
I am still pretty new to this and will look up some things on the internet, But if DMR members here can offer me some advice this would be very welcome. Mainly looking for pointers on stats(maybe spec) gems, gear and ofc spells. Every bit of advice is highly appreciated.

For a starter on gear/gems/glyphs, check out Willhunting's armory page, he's disc full-time these days for both PVE & PVP (and it is easy to tell which talent build/glyphs and gear belongs to which).

Variety of easy articles to read which will give you a good general grounding on how healing differs from holy.  They're not all 100%, but they give you enough to start with:

Disc is a great spec if you can handle how different it is and like the way it works.  Try it as a second spec, you'll probably enjoy it!

You can always speak to me (like ya did last night ^_^) if you still need some more help... but i found you just gotta do heroics and get the feel of it then move up to raids etc

Thanks for the links TL, took a quick look at them and they are a interesting rad for me. Looked at Willhunting's spec and took that one to play round with. He was in pvp gear at the moment and i dont know if you can look at the other set to compare stats. I will look it up later on. At the moment working on some gems and enchants to up my Sp/crit/haste a bit.

I have healed in disc as my second spec, shadow being my first, in many raids now.  Feel free to pick my brain also if I can be of any help or Jim is not about!!
