Rise of the Triad is a first-person shooter (FPS) that Interceptor Entertainment is developing for Apogee Software, with a release scheduled for Steam in early 2013. During a demonstration at QuakeCon 2012, the developers indicated that the game is a revival of the earlier Rise of the Triad, which 3D Realms published as Apogee Software Ltd. in 1995.[2]

I had the original "Rise of the Triad" and it was awesome. The thing was, it was fast and furious with spring-jumps, fireballs, insane drunken rockets and more environmental destruction than BF3's got now!

The original game was shareware (for all you young folks, that means free) and you got the first "episode" of ten levels for nothing. If you "registered" i.e. bought the game, you got another two episodes of 10 levels - 30 maps in all. Something that never caught on at EA...

We had graphics like this when the SEGA MegaDrive had "Sonic the Hedgehog" (yeah, 2D side-scroller). The game cost £8 (I checked my receipt). And you wonder why people moan about game prices now!!!

Imagine a world where you could download BF4 for free, plus the first DLC map, also free, and only had to pay for the remaining four DLC's if you wanted them. And if you did, you'd get a box and manual with a poster and keycard, plus there was no DRM of any kind and LAN play was supported.

That's the world that Activision, EA and Ubisoft have destroyed...

This was and still is a great game.

I spent many hours watching eyeballs and guts fly all over the place because of my rocket launcher. Giant moving pillars of lava... hidden weapons and areas everywhere. Its a great game.

DOS games FTW!

For all those youngsters this is how games used to feel in the mid 1990's, twitch shooters with fast intense gameplay....... LOVE IT!

I also love that the music playing is the original soundtrack. Hopefully they have an option for the original MIDI music too as that was pretty epic. =)

Games like these need an 120Hz monitor to be at their best.

Looks and feels like a quake 3 mod from that video. Nothing too special at this stage. Might be worth keeping any eye on though.

As for the new company logo, I much prefer the old retro one they had for the game Crystal Caves.
Juggling Hard Disks over concrete floors ends in tears 5% of the time.

Looking alright for now, will need to see how it progresses. Used to love all the '3D' games 3D Realms made, DN3D of course but this, Shadow Warrior and Blood were my favourites. Come to think of it I'd rather have seen a remake of Blood or Shadow Warrior, even though I did play ROTT first.
