Used avg for ages but it became a bit heavy and had a few too many ads. Avast seems OK in 7 but updates are weird in 8.1 as they often don't seem to work immediately. Took a weird combination of windows updates, Samsung updates before avast would update. It's also seems to be throwing more adverts recently so interested to know what direction you go in.

This is what happened to me.    Avast auto-program update did not trigger, so triggered it manually on two machines.   One was fine (mine), the other was hosed (Andrew's).

I'll post up what I go with in due course!
