last raid one said I did 10k and my recount said I did 14k why is it such huge diffrence between those two addons? I just asking for I been using both on and off and it shows that for me as well, a huge diffrence... which one to use? I get confused when one say Im doing ok and the other say ya doing too low now...

is it any special number to record as dps/sec or dps/over time or? what?  help a confused cat pls what do ya go after?

I find Skada much better mainly for the real estate saving.  It can auto-switch to threat for the fight, then back to whatever you set as an out of combat default, for example Damage Done or Healing Done etc.  That and it does have a smaller footprint. And it had healing & absorbs before Recount etc.  Many plugins for it.

As for the dps figures, probably one is showing DPS, the other DPSe.  DPSe is more important and imo the mostly better figure to use.

DPS is the damage you did divided by the time (seconds) during which you were actively in combat.
DPE is the damage you did divided by the time (seconds) for the entire encounter.

As the encounter time is usually longer than the period for which you were actively dealing damage, DPSe tends to be lower, but is also more accurate as a way to measure a contribution to a fight.  For example, you could do 14k dps but die after 6 seconds of a 1 minute fight which means you have achieved 1.4k DPSe.

QuoteSkada chooses to measure eDPS, or "effective" DPS.  In essence this  is the amount of damage done divided by the number of seconds the fight  as a whole lasted.  If you're still eating pizza at the start, or die  half way through, your eDPS will suffer.  This is the preferred measure  of raid leaders wanting to look at relative contributions for a fight.
Recount chooses to measure personal DPS, from when you start doing  stuff until you stop.  This gives a figure for how much DPS you can do  when you are bothering/alive to do stuff.  This makes it the preferred  measure of pizza-eating, void-zone-standing types who like their epeen  rubbed.
Both numbers can be useful, and World of Logs shows both next to one  another in it's Damage Done screens.  This lets you see things like the  relative contribution someone was making until they died, for example.

Just to confirm TL's thought that Skada uses Effective DPS against Recounts Personal DPS.

Another +vote for Skada

I tend to sort by damage done with DPSe in brackets. This mainly stems from the days in ICC where my fellow arcance mage raped the DPS meters whilst my warlock blew him away with damage done in the same fight :)

Skada = recount + Omen in 1. Less screen space, less memory.. On its own enough for me to pick Skada. And then the advantages mentioned here :-)
or Garrit, or Torgen. Also, Livestream.

Skada without a doubt. I used recount up until the end of T11 until Teaell suggested it and I haven't gone back.

Thanks for all the good answers :) I use skada then..
another good reason for it is.. the name Skada is swedish :D

Sharpfang

tsk päls, skada is norwegian. isnt skadaD the swedish one?

Slush

Lol no, sharp. If it was norwegian it would have been called skade or skadet. Skada is swedish. Unless, ofc.. the authors are from New Norway and speaks newnorwegian. ;-)
