Tips And Tricks For Using Punkbuster for Battefield Bad Comany 2

Okay so I made this thread for anyone who has had punkbuster problems in the past or are going to in the future.

First of all what is punkbuster? PunkBuster is a computer program that is designed to detect software used for cheating in online games. It does this by scanning the memory contents of the local machine. A computer identified as using cheats may be banned from connecting to protected servers who are using punkbuster.

So why do I need it? Punkbuster is used by the majority of servers across lots of games and it helps keep cheats/Hackers off servers so you can enjoy your game.

How do I get punkbuster?[/U] A fresh install of battlefield bad company 2 asks you if you want to install punkbuster, Alternatively if you are having punkbuster problems please read below.

Common problems with punkbuster when playing battlefield bad company 2 & How to fix them "I keep getting kicked off of servers and I see messages about INIT FAILURE or technical errors about pbcl.dll or pbag.dll, or messages about DISTRESS or Update timeout ... what is wrong? "
 Solution - If this happens to you on every PB server you try to play on, then please click here for help on getting your PunkBuster updated.

If you are playing Battlefield Bad Company 2 on PC through Steam, you may be getting kicked by Punkbuster after a few seconds anytime you join an online game. This is most likely due to a conflict with Punkbuster and the BFBC2 Beta installation on your PC.

The solution is To fix this:

1. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common
2. Delete the Battlefield Bad Company 2 Beta folder, which includes Punkbuster
3. Go to Punkbuster's website and get //www.punkbuster.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.php
4. Launch the program
5. Once launched, click add game
6. Select BFBC2
7. Browse to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\battlefield
8. Click OK and then click Check for Updates.

Punkbuster will now initiate a download for the BC2 Punkbuster client.

UPDATE: You may also need to remove the BFBC2 Beta folder from "My Documents" as well before this will work properly.

NOTE: Do not let Punkbuster run in it's default destination. It is set up to go to the BFBC2 Beta folder instead of the correct BFBC2 release version folder.

Common Problems Ive Experinced & How to solve them - "Key Packets Lost" ( You get kicked after a game of BFBC:2 Or sometimes after a minute) Just means you need to update your Punkbuster Manually Via this link http://evenbalance.com/index.php?page=dl-bc2.php ( All Instructions are on there on how to install updates, its pretty self explainatory)

"I connect to the game fine, my internet connection is fine yet the game kicks me and says "Lost connection to EA Server" - Ive had this problem even though there was nothing wrong with my connection it is a common problem and I found lots of people having the same problem, Now many suggest opening ports (This is pointless) All You Have to do is Either update Punkbuster manually (using link shown above) For Do a fresh install of BFBC2 And then manually update pb ( Which I did and no longer get this message).

Great thread:) ill try this again as had dreadfull problems with pb oddly though just with BFBC2. A thread on Port forwarding in relation to BF would also be quite handy also as I had probs with that area also.

Hey nice one, ill dig out my disk and try again, I gave up brbc2 in a showbiz tantrum when I joined dMw as couldn't get it to work. Fingers crossed it will.
