Make sure you've done the account authentication and Steam Guard and you're safe even if they have your username and password they'd need access to your email address too (if you use the same password for both then shame on you get changing asap).

I'm not too worried about card details as I pay by paypal for games recently and hopefully my card details that were on there from the olden days of buying games have fallen into the abyss that is the data protection act.

Scarey, fortunately I never leave credit card details in my Steam account, use Steam Guard and my internet credit card needs that Verified by Visa thing. So I should be safe.

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

Tutonic

Erk. Let's hope their encryption is up to snuff.

Even with all the Steam Guard/Credit Card protection in place, I'm still going to reset my password just in case.....

Changed my PW as soon as I heard about this to an Uber one!!

I think its now 20 characters long of Alpha-numerics with random caps.

The thing I am worried about the the CC information, I should have just used Paypal rather than relying on steam themselves! from now on I am going to try and use Paypal whenever I can.

That is until paypal gets hacked...Considering it stores you credit card info etc it appears to use far less security than my bank for instance. Having said that I prefer to use that and google checkout where possible rather than issuing my debit card details to any shop that asks.

Dear Steam Users and Steam Forum Users:
Our Steam forums were defaced on the evening of Sunday, November 6. We began investigating and found that the intrusion goes beyond the Steam forums.
We learned that intruders obtained access to a Steam database in addition to the forums. This database contained information including user names, hashed and salted passwords, game purchases, email addresses, billing addresses and encrypted credit card information. We do not have evidence that encrypted credit card numbers or personally identifying information were taken by the intruders, or that the protection on credit card numbers or passwords was cracked. We are still investigating.
We don’t have evidence of credit card misuse at this time. Nonetheless you should watch your credit card activity and statements closely.
While we only know of a few forum accounts that have been compromised, all forum users will be required to change their passwords the next time they login. If you have used your Steam forum password on other accounts you should change those passwords as well.
We do not know of any compromised Steam accounts, so we are not planning to force a change of Steam account passwords (which are separate from forum passwords). However, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to change that as well, especially if it is the same as your Steam forum account password.
We will reopen the forums as soon as we can.
I am truly sorry this happened, and I apologize for the inconvenience.
Gabe.
