Looks like, despite EA's denials, Origin is SpyWare of the worst kind.

See BluesNews for details and a link to this German YouTube video which details what data Origin is poking it's unwanted EXE into.

And for anyone who found that scary enough, here's a link to instructions on how to run Origin in a sandbox.

While most of us don't have anything to "hide" we all have many things we'd prefer kept private and EA doesn't have the right by selling us a game, to steal our program data, bank details, Skype logs and browser history without our permission. And what if Origin was hacked? Where does your private information go then? SONY said it couldn't happen too...

Question is whether there is any way to stop it scanning the system? I have heard of putting it on a seperate partition

Apparently I actually exist! Or maybe it was the drink?

  • Option 1 - Run BF3 and quit Origin immediately - BF3 will work.
  • Option 2 - Run Origin in "sandboxie" (see link on first post) so it has no access to anything but BF3 and itself.

As long as I can close Origin after launching the games wich requires it to start I don't care to much :)  but when I no longer can shut down the program it becomes another matter o.O

Yeah but you really should not have to do that to run a game.  It's shameful - if they're not tracking, collecting and using the info, why hook into the data?

Typically to "improve" theyr product for you, in other words, target you more directly with theyr product spam :sideways:

Looking at it in the most naive way, they could be monitoring running processes to perform a type of anti-cheat service like VAC.

Looking at it from face value they're stealing data...another reason I don't want to use it.
