QuoteAs you progress in Star Warsâ,,¢: The Old Republicâ,,¢, your character will gain experience, growing more powerful and discovering new skills while also acquiring more advanced gear.
Through cunning, stealth, and ruthless tactics, the Imperial Agent has no shortage of ways to complete his objectives. Even so, as the complexity and importance of his missions increase, the Agent will have to acquire new skills and equipment to help him combat the ever-growing threat to the Empire.  This video shows you a sampling of the many different armors and abilities the Imperial Agent can obtain as he travels the galaxy.

With my very limited knowledge of abilities or in-game experience of their usefulness, I thought I'd put an Imperial Agent Sniper build together:

http://www.torhead.com/calculator/skill#400rcrbbMcRgzZbcbZh.1

No idea if 31/7/3 will actually turn out to be the way the tree develops in the live game, but it was fun to think through and it gives you an idea of where the game will head as you level up in the Sniper class.   The extra 6% crit from the Lethality tree should be a godsend for Marksmen abilities; the 7 points in Engineering providing a boost to energy & cunning together with an improved Snipe uptime.   I tended to avoid knockback skills, but in practice these might be quite useful whilst levelling, but we'll see I guess.  An interesting exercise - anyone else thought through their likely builds yet?

Looks nice TL. Only thing I was wondering is if Diversion would be worth it while leveling. If it works on bosses it would be great and should be amazing against any hard hitting target. No idea where the extra point should come from though, maybe one of the Pillbox Sniper points.
Based on the other class trees I have looked at, it seems that 31/7/3 is the default build for most classes.

Aye I puzzled on that question for a while.  In the end I decided from the damage I was seeing from Snipe in the videos of beta that I'd rather have that uptime to brute force through a foe and get it done quicker.  Whether or not that will work is yet to be seen!   I think as we play through we'll quickly get an idea of which will prove more useful.

Interesting comment about the 31/7/3 talent builds across all classes - I'd not noticed that yet, it was a 'clean room' build so I'd not looked elsewhere for guidance or what others had done.  Nice to know I am more or less on the right track (I hope!).

See you on Teamspeak a bit later this afternoon for the Beta!

Well, I finished my play this weekend on about L16 or 17, can't remember which I was when I logged out.

Here's the feedback on the Imperial Agent Sniper:

-energy starvation is a major problem
-multiple mobs are a problem, you feel like you end up grenade spamming which is on a CD and does not a lot of damage
-companion control is difficult (at least, I found it difficult)
-companion threat on multiple mobs is very poor despite AOE abilities (frag grenade)
-no healing from companion, limited tanking ability due to high damage abilities easily pulling aggro
-takes way too long to get into high dps due to best abilities only being available from cover
-LOS from cover is truly HORRIBLE.  So many time you spot an enemy, roll to cover and then have no LOS despite the game being the one to decide where the cover is!
-has some very high damage attacks that work from long range, where you can limit your energy use *and* you have something else tanking the mobs then you can do some very good damage
-found range of abilities tricky to ge ton top of, I'm sure familiarity would help, but the way available abilities are displayed in combo with the CD and GCD makes it very tricky to see what is coming up as available for your next shot.

Specific Abilities
Orbital Strikes - did not get to see orbital strike at my level
NOTE: At this time, does not get stealth - this is a big loss as so many others get it and using cover all the time is just nasty
Marksmanship is the sniper tree: entrench yourself in cover and take out your enemies from a safe distance. - at distance is the only way to play this class as it is horrible in melee range or with multiple mobs, it operates best with no aggro and from 35 yds away.
Series of Shots and Snipe critical hits have a 100% chance to make your next Ambush instant - nice but you get energy starved so quickly if you use these high damage attacks when their CD is up, so you end up not using them, or having a prolonged period of just the non-auto 'auto-fire' ability as you can't do anything else at all
Rolling into cover makes your next snipe instant cast - this is pain in the ass, everyone else has been attacking the mob for 3 seconds before you get to do a single shot and the roll often pulls aggro itself (so you end up in the middle of melee mobs) or points you away from the mob so you have no clue what you are firing at and can;t retarget quickly when the first target is dead.  Major major issue with this class atm.

General
Also had some major lag issues mid way through scenes or when looting (10-30 second lag type events)
Companion pathing is plain nasty at the moment, especially around the oft-used lifts.  Also had some wierd targeting moments from the companion where they went off to some other mob.
I found it difficult to get the UI working in a way that I could see all my abilities, their CD and get access to them quickly enough to use them fluidly.  They need some added bar customisation options imo.

Summary
So that's my feedback at the moment.  Having spent some time in the game this weekend I'm seriously reconsidering the class I chose as it was nowhere near as good at levelling as others.

Update:
After a very disappointing experience in beta on the Imperial Agent Sniper, I have found the live version much improved.  It seems to have more CC, more instant damage and do a lot more damage overall from ranged shots.   The companion also seems to have gotten an upgrade and now holds threat and can survive a mob which the old one struggled to do consistently.

So far so good.
