Hi All,

Due to this being my second year of University Education in Secure And Forensic Computing, next year will be our placement years, now unfortunatly my university is lacking in Forensic placements due to some mis-understandings about course content in the past and basicly if we want them we have to hunt for them ourselves, I was wondering if anyone on the forums new of any UK based forensic company (preferably in the north or Yorkshire area as the further south you get the more expensive it gets to live) or any  company that would ahve  use of a security and forensic student for a placement (this would be a paid placement).

I don't know any myself, but I hope you manage to find one successfully.  It might be worth contacting some of the bigger law firms & accountants in the area you prefer to work in, to see who they use for such cases?  Might lead you to some firms that might otherwise be difficult to track down, or departments within these firms with those specialities.

There are 3 main suppliers of Forensic services in the UK that are contracted directly by the authorities - FSS, LGC and Orchid Cellmark.......most of the others will be offering commercial rather than genuine forensic services. FSS are in the process of shutting down. Now i'm really not sure if they do the computing side of the business in house or if it is contracted out ( indeed a google of "Computer Forensic" returns quite a large list of companies offering services ).

Outside of criminal investigation then you need to look a things like Trading Standards agencies who will have such services.e.g "North Yorkshire County Council trading standards is their Digital Evidence Recovery & Internet Crime Unit (DERIC).  Based in Northallerton " is an excerpt i just had pop up on google.
