what mix cd... never made a mix cd.. *whistle*

hehe... it's sad thoose laws again piracy.. they spend alld their time making up laws that cant be enforced in reality, and yeild minimal result on "stopping" what they want.

So far no copy protection has stopped piracy, nor personal mix cd's for that sake, so why should a simple law, that nobody can really enforce affect that ?

Will probably be about as effective as all those years ago when it was illegal to make copy music tapes for mates

If I own a cd then surely it's my right to make a legit copy for my own use (say a copy for my car cd player as well as at home).  I also like to use an mp3 player for running - stuff anyone who says I can't copy MY music onto that device for MY use.

Seriously, I wouldn't worry - this will never be enforced except to crack the large-scale piracy operations.
If I wanted you to understand I would have explained it better

Swoop

Exactly.. i also keep copies of cd's for use in my car stereo... i dont want my originals to get stolen should some idiot break into the car. Also i dont wanna scratch the originals so i keep them at home ;)

And good point about the mp3 for running and such ;)

Well said Chimpboy, I fail to see how taking tracks of CD's you own, and mixing them together on a different CD for you own personal use could be illegal.

Greedy bastard record companies just looking to sue some more OAP's :eyebrow:

Yep it's as insane as it appears,

Professional criminals are creating huge numbers of pirate copies of CD's
They sell them for a big profit
The music industry is suffering as a result.

Something must be done.

Answer - make it illegal for legitimate owners of CD's to make ONE copy as a personal back-up

And in a stroke this will suddenly send professional bootleggers running for the hills, somehow or other.

Either I'm thick and this new legislation is a great idea
or I'm thick and it's barmy.

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

Gh0st Face Killah

Yes its barmy, as a dj a mix cd is a way of getting you work. I mail out quite a few to various promoters to get gigs. I'm hardly going to ring up and say book me, but I can't send you a mix cd coz its illegal now am I.

Very true, i think as long as you own the songs on at least 1 legit cd you should be able to make cd copies of it just for backup and others to overlisten on. Im sure the government are bringing in harsher guidlines v soon increasing the fines and sentances maybe that may work but as long as theres money around to rip off the music business there will be people there exploiting it.

Benny

didn't .wma start some form of protection by only allowing playback on the PC it was ripped on. I can't really think of any alternatives? Any takers.....

I can put .wma tracks onto my Sony Net MD tho - so it doesnt really stop it all does it!
And if Sony - a major record label - is so concerned with piracy - why dies it produce MP3 CD players and Net MD players to amke it easier to use these pirated tracks?????

so that people buy these mp3 players!

A Twig

hence, they themselves are profiting from piracy! They want it both ways!
