Yep, I also read that it was (once again) misreporting by the press. So it seems Curiosity Rover will make many important, profound and exciting discoveries about Mars but nothing that will make for screaming front page headlines and instant increases in sales and advertising revenue for the various press outlets.

I see no correlation between the importance of the discoveries and the likelihood of screaming front page headlines...

Exactly. It's aliens or they're not interested

To be honest, I don't see how a piece of debris from the rover missions being found is news.

Relatively speaking, it's like claiming that finding a bottle cap inside the sofa is news after you opened/drank a case of beer the day before.

Finding some sort of remnants of air, plants or some other new weird thing, that would be news alright.

There seems to be a couple of stories doing the rounds at the moment. One is about what must be some debris from the Curiosity landing and the other is a press misinterpretation of an interview with a scientist about what they may or may not have found through experiments. At the moment it seems there isn't actually single huge discovery from the Rover, just a lot of really good science.
