Hi guys,

I'm looking at buying a mechanical keyboard and liked the look of the Corsair Vengeance K90 however there seems to be issues using it with USB 3 ports which is all I have on my new PC, does anyone have this keyboard or any experience of this issue?  As an alternative I was looking at the Razer Blackwidow Ultimate 2013 and I can't see anywhere  that says this should only be used with USB 2 so again, does anyone have experience of this?

All advice appreciated :)

he keyboard above is a monster it is a little basic no flashing lights or macros but you can pick it up beat someone to death and then plug it back in and enjoy it is seriously good

i haver the corsair k60 which is just the fps version of the k90 an have no issues with usb 3.0 ports at all so you should be fine.
Also its very sturdy the brushed aluminium base is rock solid and looks smart too :P

Just something to be aware of, but both of those keyboards are US layout. Meaning small return keys, which is something I try to avoid with keyboards having used them in the past. The steelseries one Toby pointed out has the normal size return, but I'm not sure I could live without back-lighting these days. Not for key location, it's more about having a small amount of light in the room without my main light on or my LED lights on...so I suppose just having a very dim lamp would do.
Juggling Hard Disks over concrete floors ends in tears 5% of the time.

The corsair forums have the following message which only relate to the K90 (and M60/90) which is what lead me to worry about using it on USB3

Additional Notes from our Engineering on this update and general suggestions for this update!
Quote:
We would not suggest that this upgrade be done with the device plugged into a USB 3.0 port.
And there is no good reason to use a peripheral on a USB 3.0 port.
There have been no upgrades to the USB protocol that affect peripherals since USB 1.1. No peripheral can use all of the bandwidth available to a USB 1.1 port (12 mbits) because the packet sizes associated with mice and keyboards are so small. Additionally, the polling rates of the 2.0 and 3.0 revisions are still capped at 1000 reports/second. The only things that plugging a peripheral into a USB 3.0 port does are a) potentially cause issues like an inability to upgrade firmware because USB 3.0 chipset drivers are not as mature as 2.0 or 1.1 drivers, and b) prevent the user from plugging something in that CAN use the bandwidth afforded by a 3.0 port.

I think the smaller return key may take a bit of adjustment but I do really like the back lighting

As mechanical keyboards are mentioned in this thread, for further reference there is a reasonable summary of the characteristics of the different types of Cherry MX keys over at THG:

The Corsair K90 has Cherry MX Red switches.
