Damage done for our best attempt:

Damage done for RGT's last garalon kill:

Things of note:

Guru is rgts top dps here with 139. ours is swede with 87. I dont know what gurus gear is like, and i am aware that hes prolly standing in the ring most of the time,
but should the difference be that big?

Devlan is a mage, he pulls out 100k. Swede is our best mage (and dps) with 87k. Again, is the gear difference that big?

TL is doing 40k as their lower dps. i am probably reading the logs wrong, as i have no idea what hes doing :) our lowest is vlad and amber on 50.
Why vlad is so low cannot be only gear as hes on 482 ilvl. Amber is kiting and that might be part of the explanation

Edit: On the bright side it looks like Mario and myself is beating Hal and Whytee, alltho they are on the boss most of the time.
By the looks of it we also take shitloads of more damage in general. Am i reading this correct? http://www.worldoflogs.com/reports/rt-w3sl4idvktw7cipd/sum/damageTaken/?s=9369&e=9809
Sithy took most damage by the looks of this one

Let the discussion begin!

Tanales

First im really sorry about my power failure, not much i could do about it tho :(

OT: Me and swede are usually very high on the DPS on Garalon with close to or over 100k each on a good attempt.
EVE-Online: Lurek Andilles and Cerok
WoW: Tanales, lvl 90 Hunter on Aszune
BattleTag: Lurek#1103

Yep you are!   I was a disc healer on that kill not shadow.  Here's the previous week's kill when I was shadow which shows 95k DPSe!

Guru has a huge advantage in this fight due to his movement speed (gets to the legs and into the circle faster than anyone else) and because so much of his damage is splashed to Garalon from the legs.
Player|Leg Damage|Garalon
Guru|57.6%|
42.4%
Swedeguy|26.6%|73.4%
Hermioneg|18.4%|81.6%
Devlan|74.2%|25.8%
Midd|19.9%|80.1%[/table]
Hermi & Swede lose too much casting time be following circles religiously, but do more damage by focusing on Garalon and trying to spread DOTs to Garalon's Legs.   Midd's last log was 31/1 and I included it for comparison.   It helps if you try to follow the circles too, but mages lose too much casting time by following too much, so their buffed damage opportunities are limited.     Devlan is Frost and Nether Tempest works similarly to Living Bomb, but on this try was asked to damage legs as a focus not the body, hence his dps split is the opposite way around - RGT usually have 2 melee dps + 1 ranged on legs,  so legs go down way too quickly for us to assign ALL the dps to legs, so we put some dps on the body, ideally those (like fire mages) who can also spread damage to legs or multidot.   Yes we'd do better by killing legs faster, but then we'd lose more than we gain by lost casting time due to them moving to new legs.

DOT uptime with so many targets should be higher though.   I'm at 98.5% on the last logged try, Devlan only managed 87.8% so needs to improve imo (Midd's log showed 88.5% which is also lower than ideal).  Hermi & Swede managed 68.8% & 94.3% respectively.   Hermi's is way too low - even if she just keeps a DOT on Garalon alone she ought to be up in the high nineties.

Swede: click Buffs Cast tab, then click the # next to Living Bomb in the middle Debufs column:
http://www.worldoflogs.com/reports/rt-w3sl4idvktw7cipd/details/7/?s=9369&e=9809
The graph should pop up for Living Bomb and you can see how often multidots appear (heavier green colour = more dots up).   The lightest green means only 1 LB.  The gaps in the green are where he forgot to refresh LB and it dropped off.  Overall not bad uptime.

Hermioneg: click Buffs Cast tab, then click the # next to Living Bomb in the middle Debufs column:
http://www.worldoflogs.com/reports/rt-w3sl4idvktw7cipd/details/9/?s=9369&e=9809
Appalling dot uptime shown by the number and size of black gaps in the graph.  A mage at this level should not have these problems.
Hermi also mis-timed Combustion (3 instead of 4).

Vladic:
Glyphs seem wrong.  He should not need to sunder armor with 2 warrior tanks in the group, so Colossus Smash is pointless.   Likewise Glyph of enraged speed it probably less useful than Glyph of Raging Wind for this fight.   Cf Guru's build.

Vladic has no meta gem, so this is a fairly major loss to dps and no leg enchant.   Whilst the legs are only blue, personally I'd have enchanted the legs if I were raiding the toon at Garalon.  Likewise he needs to be running Heroics every single day to get an i463 head piece with a metagem socket.

Also keep in mind Vladic is i482 and most toons seem to see a step up in dps when they push through about i490.   Guru is i498 which is a lot higher, so there will be a significant dps difference.

Hit/Expertise: this is a MAJOR problem and dps loss at the moment as he has not got his hit/expertise to where it needs to be.   His biggest component of damage is his white damage, which is 27.9% of total damage - of which he MISSED 17.8% of the hits!    Guru missed 0%.  If you gem into hit/exp you lose crit and your damage goes down but you gain dps from not missing.   Which is the bigger loss I admit I do not know for sure, but strongly suspect missing is costing him most lost dps.   At about i490 most toons seem to start to be able to reach the various stat goals and that's why imo we see a noticeable step up in dps levels when toons reach the i490-493 level.

On Use Trinkets:   Check he has them macro'd into major abilities.   Vladic has 2 of these trinks at the moment and appears to have waited 60 seconds into the fight before using either of them (which is why I prefer macroing their use).   If he'd used them at start (under pre-pot conditions) then he would have got an extra use in before the end of the fight (15 sec buff, therefore once per minute use - it was a 7 min 20 sec fight and he got 6 uses out of both trinkets instead of 7).

NOTE:
5.2 changed Inferno Blast so that it does not spread Living Bomb any more, it just spreads ignite, pyro & combustion dots.   Therefore Midd's log will look a little better as he got all those DOTs plus LB spread.   5.2 mages need to manually DOT each target with LB.

on our later attempts yesterday we tried nuking the legs as much as we could. Also, i dont think any of the ranged are following the circles at all.

Vladic was told specifically to go on legs, yet he decided on his own that he would be better off on the body and doing splash to the legs. This was on our 5% wipe.
I feel like when im talking hes not paying very much attention, from now on im gonna ask him to confirm in TS that hes actually heard and understood whats being asked of him.

The dot uptimes is a big issue. Hermi shouldnt be that low at all. She should be pulling way more here. Theres has been very little movement involved for her in this fight so
I can see no reason she should be that low. I propose someone that knows the mage class have a chat with her. Also, Demis dps on the first boss was really low, im uncertain why.

TeaLeaf

I crunched the numbers and a 98.5% DOT uptime on LB for her would have increased her total dps by 8% !!

Yep Vladic was on the wrong target.  Not good.   Suggest do it in the melee dps channel though, it's not as public and you still get to see a response (and there's a record of it that he can;t argue with).

Re Demi:   I suspect it is a little bit of rabbit in headlights.   The real fight is a chunk more scary than LFR, so dot uptimes suffered a lot (only 78%).
Gems are totally wrong.   At that ilevel the 2nd haste softcap can't be reached from gear but I see 5 x 320 haste gems and 2 x 160haste+160spirit gems.
Intellect gems will give a way higher return (the intellect PP value is way higher) so Reckless (80int + 160haste) or Purified (80int+160spirit) are the better gems.
The only time you would consider using a haste gem is get a socket bonus (Reckless not Quick) or to force a haste cap to be reached.
See this page for info on gems:

I'll send Hermi a PM.

Re Vladic, it's probably best to have a moderated TS chat with him to talk about the above points and his wrong target issue.  Happy to attend if needed.

That explains a lot about hermis low dps. 8% doesnt put her to more than  about 65k tho, so it might be other factors in play as well?
Will  be interesting to see if Vlads dps goes up to where it should be when  hes focused on legs with splash on the boss. Iirc Bladestorm is just
slightly  under special abilities in damage on single target, so it will prove  useful in this fight as well. Hes gonna have to drop that dragon roar,  period.
Demi was healing speced and is using most of that gear, i suspect he just hasnt regemmed yet.

at what point should we leave the legs be and focus all on the body? 20%?

Basically never.   If you ignore legs the speed reduction debuff on the boss falls off and it becomes very hard to kite effectively in what by then is a limited area.    It's one of those fights like Will of Emperor where you just have to stay on task throughout and a side effect of that is that the boss drops dead at some point.
