Evenin all, need you to use your collective knowledge & help me sort my cs out.
It occurred to me while playing with you guys & in my last few clan matches that noone could hear me over my mic, so I checked it out & the volume was set lower than usual (about halfway down the scale) simply sorted i though & turned it up & returned to the meathook, still noone answered me, so i checked again while in game & it had reset itself lower, so i put it higher, & you guessed it, still no luck, & whatever i try it resets back to a lower volume, any ideas? (my mic works fine on all other apps btw)

Is your config file isnt read only? Because that would make it that any changes made in game to your settings are not saved....

Best way to try your mic is start a LAN game, bring down the console and type voice_loopback 1.  This sets it so that anything you speak will be heard by yourself.  Use headphones if you wanna avoide feedback.
Try bringing down the console while in game and seeing what the currently variables are set to, type them into cs console 1 by 1 and see what reply you get.

voice_maxgain   :       leave between 1 and 5 as it only affects how you hear other people

voice_avggain   :       again only affects other people's voice's, set between 0.5 and 0.1, higher will silence sounds completely and going too low will deafen you.

voice_scale     :        scales all voices as they are played back, doesn't increase the volume of your own voice, just increases everyone's. Default's at 2, setting 1 half's it and setting 3 doubles the scale.

voice_enable    :        obviosly needs to be 1 otherwise voice's wont work.

voice_dsound    :       Set this to 1 to use direct sound rather than wav recoded sound.  Solves most problems with XP and cs voice. BUT needs to be set in command line to cs when it's started, doing it in game wont make any diffrence.

voice_forcemicrecord :        Forces the microphone to be the inout device, set to 1 and try 0, cant hurt anything.

voice_overdrive :        Quieten's the OTHER sounds (shooting, etc) by X amount when someone's speaking.  If its about 4 or 5, the other sounds completely shut down. Default's at 2.

voice_overdrivefadetime :    Controls how long the fading in/out of voice's above takes to happen(in seconds), set somewhere between 0.1 and 0.4

Good luck.

P.S, make sure your mic's plugged into the right socket.

BTW i get all my info from this site

Im not sure if any of these things helped, but if anyone watched a CPL match recently (was pretty good matches, but still n00bs) they automatically change your  cl_cmdrate , this happened to me. I set mine to 30, i dunno if thats right or not but everyone can hear me fine. Try that if none of these other things work. :D
