Want to take a photo against a white background and have a lit subject?   Pay Amazon first. The US Patent and Trademark Office granted a patent to Amazon (details below) for just this scenario.   If the USPTO office were accidentally lost to a randomly appearing singularity the world would be a better place.  For the love of anything that is good, surely patents should actually patent an idea that is new, significant and not logically apparent from current technology?  USPTO's SOP seems to be to grant the patent and then let someone argue in court that it is not valid, instead of doing the sensible thing and not granting such a ridiculous patent in the first place.

Seriously.
