You've probably read about the plans to give everyone a decent ping a fair chance when playing SC, but have you ever wondered how?

CIG signed up with Google Cloud some time back to deliver Google Cloud VMs, specifically the dedicated gaming version.   The system will allow Star Citizen to spin up new VMs as and when needed around the world, so the important part of your connection will probably be how quickly you can get onto your nearest Google fibre infrastructure.

An additional CDN provider has also been brought onboard to provide additional bandwidth for patching/launcher duty.

So now you know where your packets will be going and why the hope is for playable pings for all.

This is the really important part as CIG doesn't really want to be in the server or hosting business - their business is in creating awesome for me to play :)
It's a very smart business move, but is reliant on the provider not going anywhere. I think Google will be here for longer than the game so it's a very safe bet.
It should also allow for good pings as good has a lot of local Points Of Presence, or End Points if you will.
