hi @ll :)

I just had some nice racing with one of your mates who named himself "jas". He pointed me to this website to share some of my "wisdom" as he called it :)
I do have two links that'll certainly help in finding a good setup:

http://www.boomerangrapido.com/?obj=art&show=1&page=7
http://www.wtrscca.org/tech.htm

What will certainly help is to get some existing setups from the official LFS Forum at racesimcentral. You can always tweak those setups to whichever extent you like and which driving style suits you best.
Most important of course is the driving itself which can be easily learned as you have access to all of the top hotlaps that have been done in LFS so far. Just watch carefully the racing line, the corner entry and exit speeds, the use of throttle, clutch, timing of downshifting and upshiftig and try to understand how the handling changes when you do it otherwise.

That's all I can say for now, so I wish you happy fraggin' and racing as well :)

Welcome biggie and welcome to the dMw forum primarily for Cs but we do play a bit of LFS.
Thx for the tips.

Something i have been looking for on all forums is what is a good set-up for a wheel (not car set-up but wheel set-up) If you could help that would be appreciated.

Cheers Smite.

hey, thanks for welcoming me here :)

Alright... I've been close to the WR today on that server but those few tenths that were missing are the hardest to get :)
Even harder to get when you have to meet the strict HLVC rules which will just fail your lap if you hit the wall slightly... really annoying at times.
It's easy to do some 1:41s on FB Gold but it requires an enormous amount of practice to get near the world record. It surely took me close to a hundred laps to beat Chaz's former WR. You just need a whole bunch of patience not to give up too quickly. Where I've given up for example is Fern Bay Green, South City Classic and Fern Bay Club which just take too many attempts to get a valid and fast lap. A wheel on South City Classic in particular really gives you a big advantage. There are several other tracks which I just don't like enough to try over and over again...
In general hot lapping is only a matter of practice. If you only practice enough, you WILL be faster. And of course it helps if you're concious of what your car feels like, where exactly you want it to behave in another way than it actually does - and what to do in order to achieve that. Here the links I gave you will surely help a lot!
I'm very lucky that I have lots of time for that ;)

@smite: by wheel setup you mean the steering configuration in the controls menu? Unfortunately I cannot say too much about wheels, as I'm still using mouse for LFS. I have a wheel but it just ain't as much fun as with mouse for me.

If you wanna catch me some time in LFS, you can have a look for the "Q-DSL Server" which is my server when I'm playing :)

Btw. I've also been playing CS in former days but I've given up on this game because it used to upset me - not actually good for my heart (and keyboard, and monitor and...) :D ;)

So see you around!

It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed, the hands acquire shakes, the shakes become a warning. It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion

lol... please don't flatter me like that. What's so fun about eating my dust? Could imagine better things than this... surely tastes disgusting :D
Quotethe help you gave me has droped my times by 1 sec ....but i still have lots to improve on
:D np, I always like to help. So if any time (and by any time I mean ANY TIME) you feel like you need help with LFS, just ring me up and I'll be there  ;)
QuoteI find it realy impressive that you use a mouse
Hmm, well... using mouse really has some advantages. It enables you to do some very fast steering corrections, you can turn the virtual wheel in much less time than you could do with a real steering wheel.
The problem is you have to use digital input for gas/brake which can only be compensated with interval (stutter) gas/brake. The Ideal combination thus would be mouse steering with pedals for gas and brake. Dunno exactly if it's possible with LFS, at least I'm not that obsessed that I'd try to figure it out. I just like my current setup for LFS which really is a lot of fun.

@smite: nice to hear, but please be concious that I don't want to motivate you to break my WR - please do not do that or I'll be forced to spend countless hours on gaining some additional tenth - please save me some time ;)
What you're saying about the first splits looking good but screwing up the last one is pretty closely what I'm experiencing often. It just makes you think "well, it's now or never, I got to make this one perfect" and OF COURSE you'll screw it up then because it's most likely you'll overdo. You have to remind yourself that you can always re-do what you have just done and there's no pressure on you to make it THIS time. If you can't get this pressure off you, you'll never be able to finish a perfect lap :)
Good luck on doings some fast hotlaps ;)
