I know a few of you guys had this same router, so hoping one of you can help - I'm struggling to work out which page in the VPN config section does what  and am not finding any good guides. Some of the info I found had people saying that the 7800n did not have vpn server itself but then others saying it does from 1.06g (which is the firmware I have) so I think the guides are confused  between a setup where the actual vpn server is running on a pc on the network :g:whereas the current firmware should have a server within it. Ideally I'd have the router do the vpn server-ing, but I can run stuff on my server if that is the preferred option with the router just doing a pass-through.

There are three config pages:
  • PPTP - looks like this is the server setup?
  • PPTP Account - I think this is the bit where I configure how I can log in from "outside"
  • PPTP Client - I think this might be the bit for when you have a vpn server running on a LAN pc instead of the router?

Thanks muchly

Is this your router?

Nothing on the page says it has VPN, or IPSec

Also, VPN is very specific - each end normally has to have the same software and as such is very unsual to find on SoHo based routers like this one.
The only VPN like software I know of with open standards is IPSec which is found on most UNIX based distributions (Linux, NetBSD, etc) and also found on Windows, but only the Enterprise versions.
Regardless of platform, it's also a real Pain In The Arse to setup. Something like OpenVPN is much easier and very robust.

Are you sure you mean VPN? Can you describe your use case a bit as there maybe an alternative solution?

I've not used the Billion VPN section (PPTP), but I think you're on the right track suicidal.

I use a commercial package for mine, so have never needed to dig into the Billion's innards, sorry.

Interesting that it's non on their main product page, or I totally missed it:
Here's the description of the VPN:

I learned something new today! Nice!
