How does the avenger compare to the 325a?

The 325a is going through a remodel so chances are it will end up being different than it is right now. It was one of the first ships created and doesn't currently fit very well with Star Citizen's current way of designing ships. It has no modular features, the cargo system doesn't work and the flight dynamics are a bit off. All this will most likely change when the new versions are released. I have no idea when that will be though. So it's hard to know what sort of ship the 300 series will be when the game is finished. It may be quite different from how it is now. Currently it's a glass cannon, quite powerful but not very durable and it has a wonky flight dynamic.

The Avenger is sorted and more or less in it's final form. I think it will get a final interior pass but that will probably just be cosmetic. So right now the Avenger is the better ship but that may change and the two ships will probably end up being quite different when they are done. At the moment the 325a looks best and the Avenger flies best. If it was me and I wasn't planning on doing loads of PvP right now in the Alpha I'd hold fire till the ships are all done.
