This first bit of news is largely for you Lib

She is expanding.

Re Symmetra.

I have recently taken a turn away from Symmetra. I used to value her teleporters before, and sure in some circumstances they can still be incredibly useful. The problem I have with them is that they take a while to get ready, are easily destroyed by a competent enemy team, and without them she can very fast become a redundant member of the defence - leaving you essentially 5v6. I have personally moved over to Mercy, favouring the revive (which with a tank absorbing a bit of damage you can get ready in minutes). She is ALWAYS useful to the team - much less constrained than the occasional use of Symmetra.

Any thoughts?

a good Symmetra can really make a defence i think.  So long as they know to DPS as well as just put down turrets, using the orb attack around choke corners and following it up with a locked on attack can almost global a 200hp char.

Symmetra's weapon: Her weapon starts off at 30dps but if you stay in combat it ramps up fast to 120dps! also a fully charged orb does 125dmg. (and goes right through shields)

great thread on her here:

edit: wow just read this in the above reddit thread: "Another cool thing is that it deals 150 per second, so if you're smart enough and are able to aim it correctly, you can actually destroy most of Reins shield if it goes along the whole shield."

But yeah a Mercy rocks :P

I like doing Symmetra in the defensive maps, I can do quite a lot of damage with the alt fire and carefully placed turrets. She's pretty good at wiping out the fast characters because they just can't get away from her beam. Pretty sure I've come away with player of the game on kills a few times. Hopping around D.Va you can take down the mech, you really have to get in her face and then just release fire and press again to take out D.Va herself on ejection, before she even hits the ground.

She does rock in Volska, the turrets are good for spotting sneaky water attacks and at the final point you can really hurt the offensive teams. I like her for Anubis as well. Also good for the first part of Numbani.

The teleport placement is pretty crucial though.

Chaosphere

Agreed about teleport placement. The turrets lib yes they're good, but as soon as a good team knows they are there, they're way too easy to take out. Then she is a bit limited during a fast push where she may not have the time to replace in a new good spot. And Gunda that damage is good but she has to be pretty close to do it, and she is fairly squishy. I think a good team will get rid of that 'threat' easily.

Note I'm only talking about good teams here, I. E. Playing in comp against teams with good teamwork and skill. I feel in this situation she is a poor choice due to what I've discussed above - she is IMO too easily neutralised, and becomes rather redundant.

It's different if you're blitzing casual play against guys that main bastion on offence (hello ghostmjr) :D

And for disclosure I used to like playing her especially on those maps you mentioned lib. But I started to notice she wasn't pulling her weight compared to other heroes in comp. Not just when I'm playing but generally! So I looked around what the 'pros' play and she seems to be largely absent. Found a lot of people echoing that above.

I agree with you Chaos on Symmetra. The teleporter is more often than not destroyed by the enemy team and even if she does do "a bit" of damage, I value the competent heal (and damage boost) of Mercy more. Bare in mind that a good Mery will also do ok damage, as her pistol is more lethal than people think. I've held my own in more than a few 1on1 encounters against certain players and especially if she's situated behind a Rein or firing together with someone else at the same target, she can do a lot of good. And the res - how many times have we not seen those 3-5 man resses on point that either manages to capture the point or to defend it and win the game at the last second.

Also, Mercy's resurrection seems to recharge very quickly as long as she's doing some healing. Given, Mercy is a bit squishy and needs a bit of skill as well or she'll die and be of no use, but the same goes for Symmetra...
