Anyone else playing this?
This game has really gotten me back into the FPS genre - the pace is fast, the frames are buttery smooth, it looks damned good and is SO MUCH FUN!

I have I know others have it, I have not played it yet. Looking forward to it though.

And....a dlc expansion is already out. Retail £17.99 on 50% off right now.

Does the fact this is a well received game excuse them for being money grabbers? I was going to buy it until I saw this dlc so soon after releasd. Shameful.

No, it does not. This is always a shame to see. Perhaps not totally evil though.  Really it means one of two things...

First the content was almost ready but not quite, in time for the set date of the game going gold. Games go gold at least a few weeks before launch, and some devs continue to work on content after this that can't make it into the final cut, thus the first dlc is fairly soon after release. This isn't really an excuse as they could always include it free, if it was something they just couldn't finish in time, with say a day 1 update.

Option 2 it was simply held back for profit later. Perhaps not just profit, as dlc is also a way to keep people interested in the game, keeping people talking about it and getting it more attention (and over time, sales). Either way cutting or holding back intentionally to sell later sucks, imo. There is a slight difference between this and just not having the content ready in time, but I suppose this fades away somewhat when you charge for it.

It's true though that not all games have the luxury of releasing dlc 3 months down the road, as by then most of the player Base may have moved on. I guess it's a difficult line to tread.

You may be able to tell, albert, that I have less of an issue with this than with restricting core in game content with a pay wall, as per our other discussion. I don't mind so much dlc that comes quick when it is single player content, cosmetics and so on, as this does not detract from the overall experience. If I wanted to buy the game and play its single player, this dlc is not going to stop that or make me feel robbed (a la darth vader locked behind £££). If I want a few extra hours of gaming, I can buy it. If not, it doesn't affect the game so much. I can still enjoy the single player I paid for in its entirety (here is where option 2 above is not acceptable, but it can be hard to tell which one you're looking at most of the time).

In a stark contrast to this, I got fed up with the battlefield games as that dlc DID affect the Base game. It quickly fragmented the player Base into those that did have the new maps and those that didn't. I'm much less comfortable with any dlc like this that impact on the experience one can have with the standalone game (in battlefields case it made it harder to play with friends in a mixed pot).

It's also worth noting that the first dlc for this game (wolfenstein) was free for those that preordered.

So, is it a shame to see? Perhaps, but I can see some fairly valid reasons for it (keeping the game living longer after initial hype dies down, content not ready at launch), and as long as it doesn't impact in the main game, I can choose to avoid it if I want to.
