Thought i'd start a thread here rather then carrying on the conversation in Puff's Rainbow Six Siege post.

In case anyone hasn't see the posts between Chaos and i so far...
Quote from: Chaosphere;430023If I am not mistaken puff, you are able to edit posts within 15 minutes :flirty:
Quote from: TwoBad;430028(Sorry to hijack) Chaos, is that user rights dependant then? (GL, Admin, user etc)
Quote from: Chaosphere;430029As far as I know it is 15 minutes by default  for all members. This is overridden for game leaders in their respective  sections.

So for exame, you should be able to edit posts within the Arma 3 area of  the forum indefinitely. I can do the same with Overwatch and LAN  content.

Admins do not get these additional rights. This is to prevent too many  people from being able to edit in perpetuity. Too many cooks in the  kitchen, and so on.
Quote from: TwoBad;430032Hmm, not sure it's working correctly then.  Just  tried editing a post i did in Sparko's area, A PUBG post i did back in  July.  Was able to edit it in a Chrome no problem, however, i can't edit  anything (even my post above) with Firefox.
Quote from: Chaosphere;430033Well your post above is more than 15 minutes old now, so you should not be able to edit this anymore.

Being able to edit a post you made in the PUBG area months ago should  not be possible. It is likely some wires got crossed when assigning you  forum rights in the admin control panel. I know it is a huge complicated  mess back there that our beloved Smilo tries to keep on top of, but  things undoubtedly slop through the net from time to time!

I can't speak for browser specific issues, we are still using a  relatively old version of bulletin board and this may cause conflicts  from user to user? Could also relate to your version of Firefox, or even  add ons. Who knows!

Am assuming you can edit arma OK on chrome, at least?

(Sorry puff we have gone massively off topic and should be spanked... Actually no that's a little weird, nevermind :D)

Just to confirm, I can't edit anything with Firefox but I can with Chrome.

Have asked both Puff and Blob to test, so with me that's GL, Admin and a stanard user.  We all seem to be able to edit all of our posts no matter the age of the post but only with Chrome, no editing is possible at all with Firefox.  Not tried any other browsers.

So as i said, if your explanation above about editing is correct then its not working as intened at all.

That is indeed interesting... And yes not working as intended. As mentioned, you should not be able to edit after 15 minutes, unless in your game section.

Can you edit others' posts in any areas? (You should be able to in Arma, but not elsewhere - Puff and blob should not be able to at all).

I'll give smilo a nudge as he looks after all of these things for us.

Good shout moving this here, btw :thumbsup2:

Just my area (browser dependant)

You're a Game Leader you can edit/delete any of your posts now and at any point in the future. It's much easier from an Admin point to give you that permission across the message board rather than forum by forum. Game Leaders by definition aren't the sort to abuse the privilege and start deleting stuff all over the place, breaking threads and continuity etc.

The Plebs shouldn't have that ability. I've checked Cheese and Blob's permissions and can't find any user group that gives them long term delete permissions. I'll dig a bit deeper and see what's occurring.

Not sure about Firefox, it's a sometimes quirky browser, plus add ons can do all kinds of mischief, my  Ublock Origin addon can seriously mess up my use of the forum, so I disable it here as we don't serve ads or do any tracking.

Whatever's gone wrong it's not my fault.

TwoBad

Not looked at deleting anything, all we've been looking at is editing posts.

I don't think its addons for Firefox, i only have a couple and have tried with them disabled and still just get the wait symbol when i click edit.  Probably just the way Firefox is and looking round the web seems to confirms others also have trouble.

Jewelz^

I can edit & delete my posts in any section it seems. (using Chrome)

smilodon

Indeed.

Editing others posts is a forum moderator feature. I don't think any assigned usergroup can edit someone else's posts except Forum Administrator which by design can do anything.

The ability to edit others posts, delete them, move them etc. "should" be a feature of being a Moderator. You're a moderator for Arma and Arma Admin forums.

Being an Arma Game admin doesn't accord any special forum permissions other than actual access to the Arma Admin forum. LIkewise for the other games.

Cheese is I believe the only other Arma Admin on the forum so only he and you should be able to see into the Arma Admin forum as well as Council and other GL's.

Ah so GLs can edit all of their posts indefinitely regardless of forum area - thanks for clarifying smilo, and my apologies for the confusion there twobad.

Still strange that puff and blob are able to do so, they should be locked out after 15 minutes as should every normal member or game admin.

Jewelz it is likely your editing privileges have remained since you gained them with destiny two game leadership. Sadly this means we will now have to have you walk the plank.
