Has anyone seen this film yet, I believe it was released in the UK today?

I'm eager to watch it, but want a bit of feedback before I shell out £5.50 :)

come on smilo you must have seen by now :D

We only have I think 2 cinemas on the Isle of Man.  One has just two screens, each having one showing of a film per day, which sucks.  the other cinema I've never been to because it's brand new.

I'm thinking about seeing this tonight. I was going to go and see Monster, but I think I'd rather wait and watch that one on DVD which would do it better justic.

Assuming Cruella DeVille is up for iit of course  :eyebrow:

Never got to see it last night and i doubt I'll bother now. I'll wait for the DVD and enjoy all that money I spent on a home cinema set up

It a good home cinema setup?

I just bought a 28" widescreen Toshiba TV that was on sale in Woolworths, seems great to me :)

Also bought an EKE DVD player from aria.co.uk, cheap but packed full of features.  All I need now is a nice speaker system.

I've got a bit of a mish mash but pride of place goes to my Arcam DV 88 DVD player

Saw it over here in Oz on Saturday night.  Gotta say, despite all my trepidations over Emmerich I came out genuinely enjoying it (despite the fact there was this tiny little Japanese kid next to me who kept getting this noisy little pocket communicator star-trek-type-thingy out    )

The CGI in this film was truly fantastic, I gotta say.  It really does deserve the big screen effect.  It's like all the best cgi of godzilla, ID, twister, and countless other modern disaster flicks, but then turned up to 11.  The most suspenseful bit doesn't actually involve the weather, but NYC and LA getting hit were pretty stupendous (maybe more so than the attack scenes in ID).  Not sure about where everyone is rushing from the freezing air, but this was only a minor annoyance.

Emmerich avoids the pitfalls of xenophobia and cloying sentimentality that spoiled ID and Godzilla and comes up with that rare thing - an action movie with character and heart.  The back-story is a little light, but there's enough science and explanation in laymans terms to buy into it.

Gylenhall nicely underplays it and so rarely do we step into cloying melodrama here, Holm has a solid bit part, there's the obligatory nasty Vice President, but for me I really enjoyed Quaid being back on the big screen.  The only part I didn't enjoy was his Doctor wife, who's side story involved a sickly-sweet part about a kid with cancer.  That aside no complaints.

I'd recommend it after the relative disappointments of Troy and VH.

p.s. Smilo - you talked above about Monster.  Go and see if you still can.  Saw it on the plane over here (along with about 6 other films) and it was startelingly good.  Theron is great, but stealing the show for me was CR.
If I wanted you to understand I would have explained it better

Shrek 2? Shrek meets hte inlaws! Oh boy oh boy oh boy!

NOT

From what i saw, the previes sucked. I didnt really like shrek 1 even to start off with. Nor do I want to see him meet the in laws...

They should of left Shrek where it was and let it die.. But no! They must meet the in laws! I bet the director wanted some more cash and thats it.

What next? Shrek 3: They have a baby!
Shrek 4: Babies first day of school
Shrek 5: Donkey's death
Shrek 6: Grampa and grandma!

Sounds too dumb to me... Like that dodgeball movie thats comming out. No true good plot. and way to goofy... Things like that make me want to throw my popcorn at the screen, stand up in my seat at the theatre, and yell, "THAT MOVIE SUCKED! GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK!..."

Ill just go with Day after Tomarow... If i do see it today, ill post what its like.

ID was probably the biggest load of jingoistic tripe ever to vomit forth from seppyland.  Not to mention plot holes you could fly through in an alien mothership.  Assuming said mothership was Apple™ compatible...

On that basis alone, TDAT is consigned to my "i might watch it on TV if I notice it's on" list.

Van Helsing, on the other hand, was a hoot.  Much in the same vein as TXG, it does what it says on the tin - entertains without requiring much thought.  Even SWMBO enjoyed it.

Which was nice. :)
