Directed by Clint Eastwood. Starring Sean Penn (who won a Best Actor Oscar for his role), Tim Robbins (who won a Best Supporting Actor for his role), Kevin Bacon, Lawrence Fishburn.

Three young lads have their lives turned upsidedown when one of them is the victim of a terribel act of child abuse. 25 years later the victim (Tim Robbins) now works as a handyman and is still suffering from the effects of his ordeal. Then his friend and the second of the chidhood trio, Sean Penn, suffers the tragedy of having his teenage daughter disappear in suspicious circumstances. The third friend, Kevin Bacon now a Homicide Detective, is called in to investigate her disappearance.

This film is that rare thing, an intelligent wonderfully made film with stunning central performances that not for nothing won two Oscars.

I pinched this from a film review - 'To see strong acting like this is exhilarating. In a time of flashy directors who slice and dice their films in a dizzy editing rhythm, it is important to remember that films can look and listen and attentively sympathize with their characters. Directors grow great by subtracting, not adding, and Eastwood does nothing for show, everything for effect.'

If you don't like it then there is something very very wrong with you.

I can't look back that far for posts. October 2003! Plus it's a timely reminder for those who might pick it up on DVD.  :narnar:
